  • Keyboards for Student Composers

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our music classroom. The students were so excited by how quickly our keyboards arrived! We immediately put them to use in their rock band projects. 6th grade students used the keyboards to learn about chord progressions and to cover a popular song of their choosing. Students learned valuable instrument playing skills in addition to compromise and time management skills.

In the coming months, students will be utilizing the keyboards to apply their new knowledge of chord progressions to writing their own songs. They've also been experimenting with using the percussion settings to create sound effects.

Thank you again for your support of music education in public schools. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season!”

    With gratitude,

  • Cardio Connections

    Funded May 4, 2023

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom! Our sticks arrived just in time to finish our unit at the end of last school year. We've also been using them this school year in our 5th grade bucket drumming unit.

My music students would like to thank you for supporting our music classroom. The continued support we receive from Donors Choose allows my students to have access to quality materials that are developmentally appropriate and engaging. We hope you have an amazing year, and we'll be here rocking out with our new drum sticks!”

  • Miscellaneous Music Materials

    Funded Sep 15, 2021

Thank you so much for your support of our music classroom! Students were so excited to see the mallets and use them on the xylophones right away. They've been experimenting with our different mallet choices to see if the materials the mallets are made out of have an effect on the sound of the xylophone.

The younger students can't wait until the holiday season to use the new jingle bells. They noticed the new instrument tub right away and are so curious about what they will sound like. Unfortunately, we are still not able to play recorders yet, but the recorder cases are numbered and ready to go for when it's safe to use them again.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season this year! Thank you again for your support of music education in public schools!”

  • Shelves for Sanitizing

    Funded Apr 1, 2021

Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom! With more students returning to our music classroom, it has been such a relief to have the organizational aspects of the classroom ready to go so that we can make music safely.

Having a designated space for each class's materials has made our transition to hybrid learning so much easier. I labeled each bin for each of my returning classes, and their headphones, instruments, pencils, and other materials have a separated space to quarantine until they can be sanitized. This has brought some normalcy back to our classroom routines and expanded the number of things we can do during class time. Thank you for your support of music education at our school! (And my student's would also like to wish you a Happy Earth Day!)”

  • Making Music and Changing Lives

    Funded Nov 23, 2020

Thank you for your support of bringing the Guitars Over Guns programming to our school! The musician mentors have been meeting with students via Google Meets twice a week to teach guitar, keyboard, percussion, and music production. They check-in with students regarding their emotional well-being, give them tools to handle stress during these difficult times, as well as provide exceptional music instruction. This instruction, as well as the instruments required for students to learn and practice at home, was made possible by this Donorschoose project. Thank you for your support of music and social and emotional learning at our school. It has been such a bright point in our students' learning this year!”

  • Help Us Manage Our Mallets

    Funded Dec 5, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom! The mallet bags and bass bar stands have made it so much easier for students to manage themselves when playing instruments.

With our new mallet bags, students in Pre-K through 5th grade have been enjoying the independence of managing their own mallets without the hassle of the entire class having to share mallet bins. They simply open their own bag, select the materials they need, and if they change their mind they don't have to get up and disrupt the students around them.

Our new bass bar stands allow students to push the instruments to where they need to go, instead of having to wait for me to move instruments. Students have been enjoying the independence of being able to set-up the room themselves and we've been using the bass bars more frequently since they are so much easier to move.

Thank you all again for your support of music education in public schools!”

  • Mallets for Music

    Funded Apr 5, 2019

My Pre-K students were so excited when our new mallets arrived! They are exactly what we needed to make the most of our xylophone playing.

Today we used the xylophones to tell the story of Mr. Wiggle and Mr. Waggle. Students played the sounds effects as Mr. Wiggle was trying to visit Mr. Waggle but kept passing him without noticing. Next week we are going to use them with the book "Say Zoop" to explore all the different kinds of sounds a xylophone can make.

My students and I sincerely thank you for your support of music education and early childhood education in public schools.”

  • Tune Into Music Class

    Funded Oct 12, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! We have been using our sound system almost every day since it arrived. In PreSchool and Kindergarten we have been using the stereo to listen to classical and contemporary music and explore the different ways we can move to music. First through fourth graders have been listening to audio recordings of their performances and finding ways to make their performances better. Fifth and sixth graders have been using the stereo to play background tracks while they play the ukuleles and drum along.

We appreciate your generous donations to our classroom. Thank you for supporting music education in public schools!”

  • Building Bridges: Connecting Music and Children's Literature

    Funded Apr 2, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! We have already put these new books to good use! Kindergarten students have been learning about rhythms and drumming with "Going on a Bear Hunt" and "Hand, Hand, Finger Thumb". Students explored the different sounds our drums make and imagined we were on the bear hunt too. 1st graders learned about Ella Fitzgerald after our biography read-aloud and discussed the necessity of practice. 4th and 5th graders have been creating their own "doorbell songs" based on the book "The Doorbell Rang". Children's literature is such a harmonious addition to our music classroom, and we sincerely appreciate your support!”

  • Glockenspiels Needed!

    Funded Mar 13, 2018

Thank you so much for our amazing new glockenspiels! So far we have used them in many ways. Kindergarten students have used the glockenspiels to act out the book "Say Zoop" and the finger-play "Mr. Waggle and Mr. Woggle". First grade students have used them to play "Hot Crossed Buns", and second graders have been playing an accompaniment to the song "El Floron". Students have taken great responsibility in caring for our new instruments, ensuring that they will stay in great condition for many years. We cannot thank you enough for your support of our classroom and your support of music education!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brown

Students in my class are active music makers. Not only do they sing and play with our limited amount of instruments, they create their own music and evaluate the work of professional musicians. Many of my students are bilingual and we sing and study music in both English and Spanish. We also perform music from around the world! Help us expand our musical creativity by contributing to our classroom!
