Financial Literacy for Tomorrow!
Funded Sep 23, 2021Thank you for giving me and my students the opportunity to gain experiences with saving money and also for helping us gain access to engaging lessons. Through TPT (Teachers Pay Teachers) I was able to access distance learning friendly lessons that align with our curriculum. The lessons are tailored for students' learning diversities and made our learning more accessible
Students were very EXCITED to learn they would have a chance to earn actual money and be able to decide how they wanted to earn their rewards and use them. Students were able to track their rewards with a Google Spreadsheet and update their totals as they spent their rewards. We hope to foster learning about money part of their everyday life.
The next steps for my students will be to talk about their needs vs wants. Help students make good choices by spending money on the things they need before the things they want. Also, integrating more lesson with the use of TPT, to learn about the safety with shopping online.”

Funded Nov 10, 2021Thank you for giving our class the opportunity to have a color printer in the classroom. We appreciate being able to print out our butterfly observations. We have began documenting the life cycle of a butterfly and need to record daily observations. Having a color photo to go alongside our written records, allow us to see the changes in the color of the wings and the changes in the characteristics as they grow older. With this information, we are able find patterns and identify habitat features.
Students are excited about being able to print from their personal school computers and also about learning how to use the printing features on the class printer. They are able to edit their reports and minimize images as well as enlarge them.
There are two special friends, Rain and Raylynn who love to create their own projects using the printer. They have begun an indoor plant vs outdoor plant investigation and have made a booklet using the printer documenting their findings.”

Funded Sep 3, 2020My scholars and I have used the gift cards as a part of our classroom economy and reward system. During virtual learning it was very difficult to motivate students when it seems many items, tangible and intangible, were unreachable. Fortunately, with this class economy system students were able to strategize how they would use their funds and for one purpose.
For example, William bought himself a copy of the sequel book to our class read-aloud and was so thrilled he read the first 20 pages with the first day he received it. He wrote to me and said, " Thank you so much for the gift card, I was able to save up enough to get the sequel book, I made sure to turn in my homework and participate to get those extra points!". Other students were also setting goals as to the prizes they wanted to redeem and even were surprised to learn they were working with decimals, multiplication and personal financing.
Scholars continue to set the bar high for themselves and strive for independence as they grow into young adults.”
