  • Listening Clearly

    Funded Feb 15, 2024

I wanted to share with you the profound impact your recent donation of a class set of headphones for our fourth and fifth graders has made. Your contribution has not only provided a practical resource but has also facilitated an environment where learning thrives and futures are shaped.

With your support, our students now have the opportunity to fully engage in phonological awareness activities, crucial for developing strong literacy skills. These headphones have not only enhanced their ability to focus but have also empowered them to immerse themselves in the world of language with clarity and precision. From decoding words to comprehending complex texts, your donation has laid the foundation for academic success, not just in the classroom but also during state testing.

As we approach testing season, I am confident that the investment you've made will yield invaluable returns. With the aid of these headphones, our students will be equipped to showcase their true potential, unhindered by external distractions. Your generosity has not only provided a tangible resource but has also instilled in our students a sense of worth and belonging, reminding them that their education is valued and supported by a community that believes in their limitless potential.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. L

  • Wanted: Books!

    Funded Mar 17, 2021

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom (yet again!) With the books that were purchased, different lessons and skills have now been taught and worked on in my classroom.

With the class set of Freak the Mighty, my team and I get to work on building reading comprehension skills while also having students read a tale of change for characters that have similar backgrounds to them.

The copies of The 57 Bus are used as read-aloud for which we get to see differing perspectives from a real-life incident that happened not too long ago. Along with that, it allows students to see people of different backgrounds, orientations, and cultures and what they go through on a daily basis.

Again, thank you for donating and I hope that you continue to help fund education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. L

  • Class Set of Books for Sitting Students

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you so much for your donations that helped support this project! My class this year (new school) haven't seen the books yet since we aren't in the new unit yet, but they will be so excited to know that they will be the very first students to use these books. Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech teaches kids about different perspectives and storylines while hitting some topics that connect to students in the classroom.

When we do get to this unit, reading becomes a more important part of our classroom. Since it is a part of the curriculum, we try to make in fun and engaging while still following the pacing guide set up to keep these students on track to learn the best that they can.

Again, thank you to those donors that have made this possible.”

    With gratitude,

  • Books & Co.

    Funded Oct 6, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. With these new books in the classroom, my students are building reading stamina and their word bank daily. Along with this, my students are finding a joy of reading graphic novels of previously published novels such as Anne of Green Gables and A Wrinkle in Time. Some students in my room are also enjoying books with more diverse characters and setting than typical books.

In my classroom, reading looks like a quiet time where all students are found in various spots in the classroom reading their book of choice. With some funds that were returned due to some books becoming unavailable, I also got new seating in my classroom in the form of meditation pillows which my students enjoy sitting on while reading and working.

Again, thank you for donating to my classroom and I hope that you may help again in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. L

  • Choice Seating in Sixth

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students absolutely love the flexible seating that you brought into my classroom. They love having the opportunity to pick a seat that allows them to work the best that they can in the classroom. I especially love the fact that I have a set of portable stools that I can move out into the hallway, quickly and quietly, so I can have a small group running outside of the classroom.

When my kids first came into my room, a lot of them were excited at the prospect of having something other than a chair to sit on. Many of their siblings were jealous of the fact that their older sibling's teacher had "cool chairs" to sit on while they only had regular chairs. It definitely makes the classroom environment more relaxed than it has been in years past.

Right now, I already have another project up and running to try and get more books into my classroom to diversify my library. Some of the books that I am requesting are graphic novels which have been a huge hit in our school's main library so I would like to try and bring some of those into my room. Along with that, I am requesting other miscellaneous supplies such as clipboards to help assist my class in their best learning, especially when it isn't at a traditional desk.

Thank you again for helping donate these fantastic materials to my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

  • Exploring Literature and History With Technology

    Funded Nov 28, 2017

Thank you so much for helping fund my first Donors Choose! Since getting the iPads into the classroom the students have been rushing to me whenever an opportunity to use them approaches. Students have been using these for electronic textbooks and to take reading comprehension tests.

Being a Title 1 school, we do have technology, but knot enough for every teacher that needs to use them in their classroom, can. These iPads have already been up and running Microsoft Word and many of my lower students now feel comfortable writing their essays, knowing that they can talk-to-text if needed.

I think the most exciting thing about getting the iPads was that so many have not seen one in person. And if they have, they haven't been able to use them themselves. Many of them are excited to use the Pro and the Apple Pencil to draw art that can be used for their digital presentations.

Again, I would like to thank everyone that has donated to my project. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. L

Currently I am teaching two classes of sixth graders in the biggest Title 1 school in my area. Approximately 75% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunches and come from different types of homes. My goal is to make my classroom a space that they feel safe in, where they can learn and grow in, and a place where they feel like they can take risks. By offering my students different choices, I can see them becoming better-rounded individuals before sending them off to middle school. If I can get my students to attend my class everyday, my hope then is that they will continue attending school until they graduate.
