Make History Come Alive in DC and See Colleges, Too!
Funded Apr 15, 2019Thank you so much for your generosity. At the close of this school year, many students reflected on their favorite experiences. Not surprisingly, the Washington, D.C. was the top of the list! It would not have been on the list at all without your support.
We had an incredible time visiting Howard University and George Washington University. For many of our class, it was the first time visiting a college campus outside of New York state. It was wonderful to watch their horizons expand, as they visualized what their lives would look like on each of these campuses.
At the National Museum of African American History and Culture, students explored our American history. We examined a first edition of Phillis Wheatley's poetry, walked through a preserved segregated railway car, and stood solemnly before the casket of Emmett Till. In the rooftop exhibit on "Cultural Expressions," we danced to The Supremes and Michael Jackson next to Chuck Berry's red convertible. It was a powerful and beautiful visit.
As we left D.C., our students traveled back to New York City with a strong drive to close out the school year strong. Thank you for your support to make this happen! We are all so thankful.”

Provide a Clear Vision for our Students
Funded Apr 19, 2017I can't thank you enough for donating to help purchase eyeglasses for 32 of our students. The optometrist and the women who helped students select their frames were great. They treated each student kindly and encouraged them to select frames they felt good about. As they were packing up their equipment, they told me that some of the students "really needed glasses" and that some had never had them before.
After that, I got a steady stream of "When will my glasses be ready?" from the students. I knew they'd be excited to get them.
But I must tell you the best moments were when the students tried on their glasses for the first time. They were so surprised to be able see so well! The students were thrilled and the expressions on their faces were priceless.
Thank you for your donation. Know that you had a real impact. 32 students in our school are seeing well again thanks to your help.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Wilson

Funded Nov 2, 2015Thank you for contributing funds for the purchase of the printer for my computer lab and classroom. Imagine not having a printer at work when your job requires you to produce materials distributed on paper! I (and the other teachers who use the room) are immensely grateful for this resource that we use daily.
We print problems for students to complete, information for them to read, notices for them to take home, instructions and access codes for their online accounts as well as classroom signs and labels.
We love having it.
Thank you again and may you start the new year off happy in knowing that you have helped a public school classroom and all of its students.”

Mr. Wilson
iPad for Engagement & Individualized Learning
Funded Aug 22, 2015Thank you for contributing to the purchase of the iPad for my classroom. I use it every day in almost every class.
Using a great app called ClassDojo, I use it to track students' classroom participation and to give them and their parents feedback on how they are doing in class. Students and parents can check their points daily online.
I have used it in my computer science classes to access student accounts as I walk around the room checking their progress.
I use it to submit grades online so students and parents can monitor their progress in my classes.
I have used it along with a program called MathSpace to have students working on problems or exploring details about a lesson on their own.
It truly is an invaluable tool for me and I thank you again for helping to fund it. It is nice to know there are people out there who want to help improve our public schools.”

Ink For Class Laser Printers
Funded Nov 15, 2012Thank you all for the contributions you made to our school. With the toner cartridges you provided, we were able to get laser printers back up and running in three classrooms serving several hundred students across all 3 grades. Teachers are able to print materials for their classes and students are able to print their work for submission and display in the classroom and hallways.
So please know that your contribution has been put to good use. My colleagues and students appreciate your generosity and kindness. Thank you!”

Mr. Wilson
Light Up Our Lives!
Funded Dec 31, 2012Thank you all for the generous contributions you made to our school. Our project is up and running again and as is in regular use.
Having a projector available allows us to view dynamic presentations, search for information on the Internet, use interactive lessons on the Smartboard (the students love writing on it and interacting with it!) and watch educational videos from TeacherTube, Khan Academy and BrainPop. The possibilities are really endless. You can imagine how hard it was to go back to chart paper and markers when our lamp burned out. The new one you helped us to purchase is of great value to us.
So, thank you again for making our classroom a more interesting and dynamic place to learn. The students and I all appreciate it.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Wilson
