  • Spanish Classroom Readiness

    Funded Jul 24, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity and willingness to help educate these students. Students need more than just reading and arithmetic. You have given them the extras that a lot of people don't think when thinking of a classroom. You have given them notebooks to take notes and the impact of using notebooks has been great. Students get to use these notes on quizzes and they tell me that it helps tremendously. Grades have also shown this.

The felt and construction paper has given them the opportunity to express their artistic side and make beautiful flags of all twenty one Spanish speaking countries. Most of all have taken the flags home and have so much pride in displaying them.

Lastly, the earbuds have allowed them to understand the language better and have better pronunciation in the Spanish language.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wilson Reyes

  • Help Inspire English as a New Language Students

    Funded Jun 27, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity and support of public education. I truly believe that everyone who comes through my doors deserve a world class education. I try to give them just that. I found out through research that fluorescent lights (the ones we all grow up with in school), make students agitated and gives them headaches. So, I want to thank you for providing those diffusers for us.

I also want to thank you for the adult English books that I can allow the parents of my English Language Learners to borrow so they also have a chance to learn English.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Wilson Reyes

I believe that everyone has a right to an equitable education. This is what creates good and productive citizens. My students are over 90% free and reduced lunch. Technology is not at the forefront of their parent's minds. However, with my population of students (English as a New Language Newcomers) they are more interested in survival than getting their child's education underway. With this population, drop out rates are very high. Studies show that if someone (a teacher)shows an interest in their lives, drop out rates are significantly and dramatically reduced. This to me means that there will be someone who will be producing in society and not someone who will be taking something out from society. My students are very eager to learn. They are eager to contribute. We just have to give them an equitable chance to do that.
