This is our first year doing Cortland News at Cortland Elementary School. The goal is simple, build community through daily announcements and student-created videos. So far, our first year is an incredible success. We started with the daily announcements and I am happy to report that these are now 100% 5th-grade led. The second part of our goal is still a work in progress.
Students need the proper materials to be creative. Although we have one great camera at our disposal, one camera just isn't enough for our junior filmmakers. These students spend their own lunch and recess time creating these videos because we really can't do after school activities. With the need for multiple camera angles and more than one video filming at a time, our one camera is in high need, and the students are giving up a lot of their time to use the one and only camera.
With two cameras we can get more small scale projects done in a timely schedule, and our larger projects can feature more camera angles which will lead students to become better cinematographers. It also decreases the risk of damaging a camera and having to shut down the whole club entirely! Help us continue to build our community at Cortland by supporting Cortland News. Our staff, parents, and most importantly students will really appreciate it.
