  • Small Group Learning

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

With your donations, we have been able to create a small group working area for students who need additional support. We have used this area during our writer's workshop and math time. Here we meet as a small group to conference and focus on areas of need. Students enjoy having a space to check-in and get the support they need.

Additionally, students enjoying using our stools, not only during small group time, but also during our read aloud. During this time while some students sit on the carpet, others sit on the donated stools.

We are looking forward to the continued use of this area as we begin our argumentative unit of writing.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ramos

  • A Classroom Meeting Area

    Funded Aug 19, 2019

Thank you for supporting our project. Our school has adopted the Writer's Workshop curriculum by which our students experience a new lesson everyday. Because of you, our class has been able to enjoy a comfortable gathering area during our Writer's Workshop Mini-lesson. While at the gathering area, students develop their writing plans which allows them to be prepared during their independent writing time.

Not only are students enjoying the carpet during our mini-lessons, they are also enjoying this area during their lunch time. Students enjoy coming in during lunch to sit or lay down to read a book. Moreover, past and present students enjoy this area to interact with their peers during their break time.

From day day one, my students have been excited to have a comfortable area. They express that they no longer have to sit on a hard, cold floor. As we continue our units, students continue using this area as place where they learn a new strategy, develop and share their writing ideas, and lastly, an area where they can enjoy a good book.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ramos

Our school has recently adopted the Lucy Caulkin's Writing Workshop curriculum. As part of the direct instruction, students gather in a specific area within the classroom to learn and practice new writing strategies. Giving students a comfortable area to sit, will aid them in focusing on developing their thoughts and ideas to share with their peers. As an educator, it is important to provide my students with a supportive learning environment. Having a gathering area, with a rug, will create a comfortable, welcoming, and warm area for my students to learn, develop and share topics of importance to their lives.
