  • "Yessity Yes!" Get Me to the Whole Brain Teaching Conference!

    Funded May 8, 2017

I have learned so much from this conference! By the third day my brain was hurting!

The first day of the conference focused on the basics of classroom management, whole Brain Style. I learned about the parts of the brain and how to engage all parts within the classroom. I was also able to stay for a bonus writing session!

Day two was about diving deeper into classroom management and how to approach individual behaviors. I then got to attend a bonus Pilot school informational session, which I am very interested in. I can't wait to bring my new knowledge back to my classroom and the other teachers at my school!

Day three was focused on the academic aspect of Whole Brain teaching, most specifically, writing. Oh boy, are my first graders going to be amazing writers next school year! I really look forward to implementing what I've learned.

The highlight of the event for me was understanding how to manage the classroom and individual behaviors, in a positive way, with a focus on relationship building, and without having to use tangible rewards.

Whole Brain Teaching is an amazingly engaging, and fun approach to classroom management and an exciting teaching philosophy. I will be sharing what I've learned at a school Professional Development in the fall and I know that what I've learned will have a positive impact on my students, as well as the students of the teachers who decide to follow this approach. I highly recommend checking it out!

Thank you for making this experience possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Worsham

  • We Need Materials!

    Funded Apr 2, 2017

When my students watched me open the package and listened to me tell them about all the generous and helpful people that made this project happen, they were amazed! They couldn't wait to use the materials! Some students even noticed that there were so many pencils that there were enough to share with students in other first grade classrooms; they were paying the kindness forward! Not only has your generosity brought joy and excitement to many first graders, but your kindness spread through these young minds and created a positive impact beyond our classroom.

Since opening the package, we have been able to use many of the materials on a daily basis. In the pictures you'll notice that the dry erase markers are being used during our phonics lesson, as students use what they have learned about letters and sounds to write "Thank you so much!" on their whiteboards. These markers have allowed us to continue this spelling and practice daily. You will also notice that students are using the new pencils and pencils grips. This is helping those students who may need a little guidance as they learn how to properly hold a pencil. Lastly, the photos depict students working on a project, following a plant life cycle unit. They are using the colored pencils to create beautiful flipbooks, in which they write and draw to show what they have learned about the life cycle of plants. These beautiful pieces are in the process of being displayed on our bulletin board. The quality of there work has increased with these new colored pencils, as well as their pride in their work!

The math materials will be used in a couple weeks as we begin our geometry unit. There is so much anticipation in the classroom! They can't wait to start the new math unit, so that they can explore and learn with the amazing geometric solids that you helped me purchase.

Moving forward, the next project that I am working on for my first graders is for recess equipment to support their physical, social, and sportsmanship development. Check it out!

My students and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and caring. The most important impact this project had was that generosity and caring was modeled for them, and for many, these are traits that are becoming part of them. You will never know how far your impact can go!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Worsham

I just changed districts and am so excited to meet my new young scholars! I will continue teaching first graders, so I am very familiar with the everyday supplies they will need. Help my students and I start off on the right foot his year!
