I chose a variety of items to reach all learners. Read aloud books with strong characters are a great way to engage learners in discussions about their own feelings. I chose books about germs, as well, because the kids are struggling with understanding our going back to social distancing and masking. Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards provide materials created by teachers who understand the need to diversify learning. In particular, I will purchase phonics and sound box centers to teach short and long vowels, a basis for sounding out longer words. For math, I will purchase center activities and manipulatives to support number sense which is the basis for all of our lessons. We are certain to need remediation after our learning environments were continually disrupted last school year. I hope to use the materials to create hands-on materials for in the classroom, but if necessary, they can become digital activities if we are shut down again this year. Purchasing these items also support the fellow teachers who created them. Finally, I chose fidget materials. One thing I noticed about my class last year is that they were not used to sitting and workng for an extended time. Despite constant brain and movement breaks, many kids benefited from holding and moving something in their hands for sensory stimulation.
