  • Art Flexible Seating

    Funded May 8, 2024

Thank you so much for donating.

    This helps all

My students as they now have different types of seating to focus and foster sel in the art room.

Flexibility has so many benefits from flexible seating: it channels excess energy, improves metabolism, motivates learning, increases engagement, and improves posture, to name a few. Hard chairs and desks have been a staple in most classrooms since I was a student decades ago. Education is ever-changing.

Students with autism or ADHD, for example, often struggle with sensory overload, so flexible seating is beneficial!”

  • Classroom Needs!

    Funded Mar 23, 2024

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generous contribution. With supporters like you, we know we can achieve our goals. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us make a positive impact.

Giving these supplies to my students make them feel more like play when students get to choose their medium and subject matter. While there is a time and place for cookie-cutter art, they can make projects feel more like assignments versus meaningful artwork. Give students autonomy, freedom, and fun with choices as they complete their artwork.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Michelle Weintraub

  • SEL and Art of Creative Doodling with Zentangle

    Funded Jun 26, 2023

Thank you so much for your wonderful donations. The sharpies markers allow my students to make their sketches bold and stand out for the viewer. They utilize the pencils to sketch out their artistic ideas and the erasers to adjust as they go along.

They are creating their own doodles.

Zentangle is an abstract art form where the artists draws repetitive, simple patterns. Usually the patterns are drawn using a black marker on white paper and sometimes the artist will color them in.

Students learn that doodle is something like the circular patterns and more detailing is there and zentangle is a pattern where there are some lines and other patterns which have quite less detailing.”

  • Cozy Corner Essentials for SWD and ENL Students

    Funded Jun 23, 2023

Thanks so much for the supplies to make my cozy corner a reality for my students. My art students love sitting on the rug and using the been bag chairs when they need a break or alternative area to work and complete task or redirect themselves.

My enl students use this area to have conversations about art in their native language and English. Also my swd students utilize this area for independent readings in a quiet area to focus and learn about art.

We appreciate all your donations for our art room.”

  • Paul Klee 2d Art to Reinforce Elements of Art

    Funded Jan 22, 2023

Thank you so much for making this project a reality for my students at 28Q055.

Paul Klee is such an influential artist for my students. He uses the elements of art (lines, shapes and colors) to capture a childlike dream. We utilize his style of art to have students find their voice, be expressive and use details.

Students in my art room were able to get a hands on experience by making collaboratively 3 d Paul Klee inspired castles with the magnetic blocks and shapes. They also were able to use hands on techniques to create a Paul Klee inspired shapes castle.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Michelle Weintraub

  • Multi-sensory Pre-K Play to Promote SEL and CRSE in Art

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you so much for all of your help funding this projects & making it a reality for my early childhood art students at 28q055. Through these manipulations with play dough , children develop eye-hand coordination, the ability to match hand movement with eye movement. They also gain strength and improve dexterity in their hands and fingers, critical areas of physical development for writing, drawing, and other purposes. It also allows them to express diversity, feelings and learn their letters.”

  • Sculpting my Identity in Visual Arts (SEL and CRSE Activity)

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your donations to fund this project for my students at P.S. 55Q.

We are consistently promoting sel, crse through the arts at our school. Kids are learning to be expressive and understand that we all have difference and that those differences make us special and unique. We are building on question and discussion techniques. My students are understanding how our own experience and ideas shape who we are. Culturally responsive education is about teaching the students in front of you. To do this requires that one work to get to know their students and develop meaningful relationships with students while engaging in the students' communities.”

  • A Second Monitor for Mrs. Weintraub's Virtual Art Class

    Funded Apr 7, 2021

The pandemic has caused Challenges to me teaching art and SEL to my students and chaotic at the best of times, to descend into Zoom and google Meets call chaos. What's more, is that I needed to navigate this new, weird system with doing so with just a single monitor, making it difficult to see my students and the lesson at the same time. By getting this second screen, it helped me out with this elementary art at ps 55q. It was hugely important and helped me manage better. Thank you so much to all the Donors and for supporting my students.”

  • "Art Bucks" Incentive Supplies

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

The goal of PBIS is to create a positive school climate, in which students learn and grow. However, school climate can vary widely from school to school. A number of factors affect school climate, including school location, neighborhood culture, instructional methods, student diversity, and school administration.

At P.S. 55Q. we are creating an incentive program with the supplies from the Donorschoose.org funding for the subset of students (roughly 15%) at our school who struggle with the Tier 1 interventions and supports, Tier 2 addresses at-risk behavior. The specialized interventions and supports at the Tier 2 level help to prevent the worsening of problem behaviors. Students are given an extra period on Fridays to come down to the art room for special projects with Art bucks and classdojo points they earned from both me and their classroom teacher. These efforts focus on specific and diverse groups of students and the underlying issues that may be causing the behavior. Disruptive students may be dealing with social, emotional, or academic issues that result in poor behavior in the classroom. Tier 2 interventions parse out the hidden causes behind negative behavior and provide support in changing those behaviors. They get to create and be expressive in a productive manner through many modalities in the art room and speak freely to verbalize their feelings, emotions, fears, anger and any other issue. Thank you again for supporting our students at P.S. 55Q.”

The students will be inspired to use their prior knowledge of abstract art and apply it to expressionism art. They will learn about Paul Klee and how he was inspired by Wassily Kandinsky which was our last artist study. They will utilize dot art to form lines and images to be of unique organic quality to create a community mural with the dot art requested, felt, different types of paper that we need and fabric to create different textures and use collage techniques. I want them to learn to see art and all of its beauty. I also want them to build a sense of color by creating abstract animals, faces and buildings using oil pastels like Paul Klee and colors cool and warm. I want to integrate art, music and writing to enhance our mantra at p.s. 55q. And support our new magnet school title. Magnet school of communications through art, multimedia and technology.
