  • Every Student Has a Spot in My Heart!

    Funded Aug 5, 2023

Thank you all for your generosity towards our classroom rug! It has truly helped our whole group learning time. Student's are so appreciative and have loved getting to use the rug. They feel special that they have a personal learning space of their own. This is all due to your giving hearts.

Our rug has provided organization during lessons which creates a better flow for lesson structure. During lessons, students have a designated spot on the rug where they are ready to learn. Students are more motivated and attentive due to our new learning tool. We cannot thank you enough! Our class LOVES our rug and we are so thankful for you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Husejnovic

  • You Have a Place and a Space Here!

    Funded Jun 28, 2022

Our classroom rug arrived just in time for the beginning of the school year! It's a beautiful rug and great quality. Students comment on how comfortable and soft it is too! There are 25 circle spots on the rug, and students are allowed to choose their space when they join for whole group instruction.

The first thing we learned is how to stay in our own space on the rug and show whole body listening during learning time. We sit criss-cross or legs to the side with eyes watching, ears listening, voice quiet and body still!

Students have also learned how to "turn and talk" with the person next to them at the rug. They face each other quickly (knee to knee), take turns speaking, and then turn back toward the teacher when they are finished.

We have also used our rug to sit around in a circle for different group activities and sharing opportunities.

We use this space all throughout the day, and we are loving having this rug!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Husejnovic

  • Just a TOUCH of Phonics!

    Funded Jun 8, 2021

It has truly been wonderful having these materials for our our first quarter of school! ALL of my students know all of the sounds that I have taught in our curriculum so far, and being able to use these multi-sensory materials is a big part of that! The textured tracing cards and sand trays have allowed students to practice the letter sounds and spellings through a tactile modality, plus it's engaging and fun! We are just starting to work on blending and segmenting sounds in words and students were AMAZED to see the magnetic wands and how they can help us blend sounds into words. We also use our mini whiteboards every day in small groups to practice writing letters, words and sight words! Several students have commented on the "cute" miniature size of the boards. We will continue to use these materials throughout the whole year in our small groups. Students will continue to benefit from the multi-sensory practice of new phonics skills that are introduced.

Thank you again for your generosity and support! You have helped bring engagement and joy into these lessons, and I'm so thankful for that.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Husejnovic

  • Spaces and Places for My Germs Only!

    Funded Jul 26, 2020

Thank you SO much for the beach towels, lanyards, and math tool kits. Students were excited to choose their beach towel color and use these to work outside. We are able to get out of our four walls for some fresh air and have a comfortable space in the grass to work! Check out our picture using these to listen to stories on our iPads!

Our lanyards have also been super helpful for smooth transitions for specials classes and the cafeteria. I was able to make name tags for each student with their first and last names, their teacher's name, lunch number, and seat assignments. Students were excited to choose the color of their lanyard and have a place for their mask during mask breaks and eating times. We use these multiple times a day!

Our math tool kits are kept in each student's cubby and hold dice, counters, and number cards. Each student has their own kit which saves time from having to distribute materials. We have been able to do more math games since these are readily available to students. Our favorite game is roll and build! We also played a pizza game for ways to make 10 with the counters in our tool kits!

I am so glad I did this project and requested these items for my students! We have all enjoyed these materials and will continue using them the rest of the year. Thank you, donors!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Husejnovic

  • Seat Sacks Are Where It's At!

    Funded Oct 18, 2019

After receiving and unboxing our package, students were excited to hear that we would be having a "moving day!" We gathered our supplies and each student moved their own supplies into their seat sacks. We talked about how we can be responsible with our seats sacks by keeping them organized and tidy.

Students now have a space to store their personal supplies that they need often throughout the day. Each students' seat sack holds: a library book, a pencil pouch (pencils, crayons, highlighter), a dry erase marker, a folder, and their lunch necklace!

Having quick and easy access to supplies throughout the day has saved us so much instruction time. We do not have to spend extra time distributing materials or having issues with sharing community supplies. The name tag slots on the backs of the seat sacks have allowed us to get ride of table name-tags that often get ripped or disappear. We are so grateful to have this system in place in our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Husejnovic

  • ABC Alpha-Fun for Everyone!

    Funded Jun 19, 2018

My students were thrilled to unpack our donation package together! We took out each item as a group and there were many excited reactions. Students were saying things like "wow!" "I want to play with that!" and "That's so cool!" We practiced playing with the ABC materials together before putting them at a station.

Students enjoy working at the stations both individually and in partners. These materials have made learning letters and letter sounds more engaging and fun! Not only are students having fun by learning through play, our letter and sound data have improved. We have made amazing progress in just one quarter!

Thanks to your donation, we will be able to continue trading out materials at our ABC station throughout the year to keep it fresh, challenging, and fun! We are so thankful for your generosity and look forward to using these materials all year and in years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Husejnovic

The majority of my students enter Kindergarten knowing less than 10 letters and some of them knowing 0. Mastering letter names and sounds is a critical reading foundational skill that my students need to have in order to be able to read at grade level by the end of the year. Through Letters Alive, my students will get to experience letters, sounds, and sight words through advanced 3D technology known as augmented reality! Students will be able to see, hear, touch, build, and speak while learning through this positive and engaging experience that will also increase their proficiency and retention of letters and sounds. As each letter and sound is introduced, students will also get to see each letter come alive through this technology program! Students will be making connections between the letters and their animal representations, which also ties into Science. The program allows students to see a 3D image of the animal and letter, hear the name of each letter, and also hear the sounds of the animals and letters. As students learn sight words, they can build sentences using the word and letter cards to create stories that come alive!
