This is my third year teaching middle school students and my second as a 6th grade teacher at Lewis. I've learned that middle schoolers are hard-working and fun-loving. They love to joke around but also love to discuss historical and present social issues. My students come from a low-income, under-resourced, minority community in Chicago. With lack of adequate funding, our school is limited in the supplies and opportunities we can provide these students. They have all the potential to learn and grow but simply need the resources to get them there. I love teaching middle school because this is the time they transition into "young adulthood." They are maturing rapidly but are still young enough to be excited about learning. Providing them with plenty of avenues to explore their interests, their identities, and the world will direct them towards becoming the best version of themselves!
