  • Help Make Phonics Instruction Go From Hands to Minds!

    Funded Jul 27, 2024

Because of your generosity, you have helped acquire the tools necessary to create quality materials for my students to use for literacy development and growth. The costs of providing these unique and exceptional materials is well beyond the budget that our school and my personal resources could supply.

My deepest desire is to give my students access to the best material for their learning and because you graciously gave to this project, my particular request has been fulfilled. People like you are my heroes because you see the value in giving children priceless opportunities for learning!”

  • It's Time for Kids to Read... Another Subscription in Need!

    Funded Apr 11, 2024

Because of you, the world is at the fingertips of my kiddos! If only you could have been in our classroom to witness the excitement they displayed when receiving their first issue! The children were excited to bring their first magazine home and are looking forward to receiving many more. Time for Kids offers a digital (talking) version of the magazine to display on our SmartBoard so I can easily pause and talk about whatever is showing. So many questions arise when presenting the variety of topics that Time for Kids features. This leads to great oral discussion for our entire class. Thank you for bringing the world to our school in rural Minnesota!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tongen

  • Learning to Read the Multi-Sensory Way!

    Funded Aug 8, 2023

A BIG heartfelt thank you is coming to you from this SUPER grateful teacher! While your intended donation was to help our classroom receive multi-sensory materials for reading, I was informed that the item was no longer available from the vendor. This was disappointing news but I want you to know that other materials were purchased to support the learning of letters/sounds and words. I was able to secure laminating pouches and velcro dots much needed for creating Blending Boards that are being used for phonics instruction and reading. With so much sincerity, I thank you for contributing to my project which is a priceless investment in our children!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tongen

Thank you tons and tons for your donation to my project. Because of you, the world is at the fingertips of my new crew of kiddos! My students will learn beyond the walls of their Maple Lake classroom through this subscription. I guarantee they will love their magazine and share their excitement with their families. Time for Kids offers not only the physical magazine but online accessibility as well. I use this to project the images for discussion. The short videos that are included with each weekly magazine add depth to topic at hand. Thank you for bringing the world to our classroom! ”

  • The Creation Station Supports Imagination!

    Funded Oct 16, 2021

It is hard to describe the excitement my students express when working with materials that you helped fund for our classroom 'Creation Station'. There is not a day that goes by without a student coming to me saying, "Mrs. Tongen, do you like what I made?" or "Mrs. Tongen, look what I made!" The creations have no limitations and that's where their imagination can soar. You have helped supply the materials that spark their creativity and I can't thank you enough for this. My students are benefiting from these quality materials that our school can not supply in the regular budget. Thank you for your help in making my project a reality!”

  • Building Literacy the Multi-Sensory Way!

    Funded Dec 30, 2020

The kids (and me) are really enjoying the magnetic letters! We use them every day in whole group activities as well as literacy centers and guided reading groups. It's VERY helpful to have enough magnetic letters for the kids to have their own set and easy to tell the difference between the vowels and consonants because the vowels are red and the consonants are blue. Physically manipulating the letters engages the children and utilizes multi-sensory avenues to make connections to the brain.

Sorting the letters back into the box is a favorite activity for those who use them. It keeps it neat and tidy and ready to go for the next time we need to use it.

I can't thank you enough for being SO generous to us. Because of you, my children are getting one of the best materials to use on their journey to become literate!

The thing that makes me smile about all of this is that it reminds me of you, Becky. We made a pretty AWESOME team!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tongen

Our school was recently named a "Minnesota School of Excellence" and rated a "Reward School" by the Minnesota Department of Education. This doesn't happen by chance. We have students that work hard to achieve their goals and teachers who empower and believe in ALL students. Our elementary houses PreK-6 and serves approximately 470 students. My classroom currently houses 19 eager learners who are deserving of high quality materials to be engaged in. My students come from a variety of socioeconomic households but are entitled to a classroom that provides materials that ALL students can learn no matter what their background is. Resources are so very limited in our school so asking for materials is almost unheard of. My kindergarten students are like sponges and will work hard at any task that is given to them. We take learning to read very seriously but done in an age-appropriate way. I can count on them using classroom materials respectfully and purposefully.
