Kindergartners Need Everyday Supplies!
Funded Jan 17, 2017Thank-you to everyone who quickly funded this project as we need these supplies as soon as possible! This donation will help students in kindergarten have basic supplies for everyday use and will help our class run more smoothly! You are making a huge impact on students who barely have their basic needs met. Thank-you for your help!”

Kindergartners Love Learning Centers!
Funded Dec 2, 2016All I can say right now is WOW! You all have made our learning dreams come true. These supplies are going to motivate our students so much more! They already LOVE center time. Just wait until I tell them all about the new supplies we will be getting that they will be able to work with during center time! Especially around the holidays when my students might not get all they ask for, it is so rewarding to surprise them with special supplies that will help them learn and have fun. Again, THANK YOU so much for supporting our class!”

We Love Reading Centers!
Funded Jan 28, 2016Usually in a classroom where funds are low, students sit on a rug for a short lesson and then complete a corresponding workbook page or worksheet which is of course boring and unengaging. Students usually don't complete the page or behaviors erupt because they are not interested. The solution is called learning centers. Learning centers are standards based activities that are hands on and fun. The problem is that they can be expensive to make. Throughout the year I have made my own and laminated them but nothing replaces quality learning centers like the ones you helped to obtain for the class.
For reading we got a listening phonics phone where students can hear their voice as an echo on a little play phone that comes with an alphabet phonics booklet for them to learn the sounds of the alphabet. This was perfect for my students who are shy and don't get to hear their voice as much. It was also great for my audio learners as well as my student who has a hearing aid and can now hear her voice over others. We also received a rhyming puzzle, middle vowel puzzle and a blends and diagraphs puzzle. With puzzles kids have fun solving the phonics behind the puzzle instead of just filing in the blank on a worksheet. It also promotes problem solving skills. Another great learning center is the I Can Write center where each student gets a different task card working on basic skills like sounds, three letter words, sight words, etc and then they build each one with magnetic letters and then write it with a dry erase marker.
We also received many math centers like a math counting puzzle and math locks. The math locks have an amount on one side and the number word on the other side. Students then have to match the numbered key to the correct lock to unlock it. They really love it! We also have a more challenging game for comparing numbers which we just learned. They spin two spinners and put that amount of ducks in the pond then they have to use the correct comparison symbol to compare the amount of ducks.
These learning centers have improved classroom behavior and enthusiasm. Students can't wait to go into a particular center and they know only those who behave will be able to go into one. They are learning but having fun. The parents even notice a difference because instead of the kids telling them they learned nothing in school, they are excited to tell their parents which learning center they were in.
Your donation will not only help the students this year but next year as well as these learning centers are reusable. Kindergartners need more fun activities like this as there is no recess, no gym and no play time. It is important for them to develop healthily social-emotional interactions with their peers and these centers allow for that to happen. Thank-you for making a difference!”
