Career and Technical Exploration
Funded Dec 18, 2023This project will significantly impact my students' career and technical journeys by providing them with the tools to build their skills in video editing and digital design. With the addition of a monitor to their custom-built computers, students will be able to use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit videos for both the school and team social media, gaining real-world experience in digital media production.
Though our learning environment is virtual, students engage in creative pursuits using Adobe Animate and Creative Cloud, and this project will allow them to bring their designs to life—creating tangible records of their progress. By transitioning their abstract designs into real-world projects, students will not only strengthen their technical skills but also develop portfolios that showcase their creativity and growth.
Thank you for helping provide these invaluable learning opportunities for my students. Your support will help them gain marketable skills, build confidence, and prepare for future career paths in the creative industries.”

Esports In Virtual Education
Funded Dec 15, 2022My students tasked themselves with choosing the parts, finding the instructions and guiding the building of one gaming PC, this experience was a transformative one for a group of students who came to me shy and unsure of their abilities to lead or guide someone through and activity. I had the privilege of seeing them laugh and blossom during this process as well as gain confidence in teaching me a new skill.
Thank you for giving me the means to give my students the opportunity to test themselves and gain confidence and joy in an activity that was important to them.”

Funded Dec 13, 2021During the winter months in New York City many students who reside in uncertain living conditions rarely have everything they need during the winter, and many are afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. This project allowed me to provide essentials to some of my students in a safe way.
The students who benefited from this project were grateful and I was a grateful for being given the means to help them. So thank you to everyone who donate and shared my project and continue to support my students.”

Funded Dec 1, 2021This project took many moths to come together and build but by the end of it my students have a place that they can go when they need to decompress, where they can do yoga or where they can have restorative circles.
This year has been hard in many ways for my students and this space has given some comfort when they needed it and that has been extremely impactful this year. I hope to continue to add elements into the room that add to my student's comfort in the school building . Thank you for you for the part you played in making this a reality.”

Funded Mar 23, 2020During the pandemic when my students were moving in an uncertain blended mode of education this project helped to make sure that we had a way to connect to each other and allowed students to feel as though their hobbies could be more. Students embraced opportunities to teach each other work with each other and compete with other schools to test themselves and improve their skills. This project turned out to be an amazing tool in taking care of many of my students' social emotional needs. I am t truly grateful that I had the opportunity to provide them with this.”

E-Textiles: Exploring Computer Science
Funded Dec 4, 2019These resources are an important and fun part of my computer science curriculum. They have allowed my students to participate in an e-textiles unit which they would not have previously participated in my students are creating simple paper circuit greeting cards that includes one LED. Introduce the concept of aesthetic design and personalization, wristbands with three LEDs in parallel and a switch that turns on the project when the ends of the wristband are snapped together and a human sensor with two aluminum foil patches that act as a sensor when both are touched by a person. Program four+ lighting patterns based on different sensor readings.
My students were, excited happy and grateful for all of the packages started floating in and were ready to begin engaging with the materials immediately.
Hopefully engaging them in this exciting curriculum can open the interest for computer science careers. Thank you Donors!”

Funded Aug 15, 2019When I started this project I was unsure how well my students will receive the brand new curriculum around computer science. However when we received the robots from this project they were suddenly excited to participate in the activities in the class that would lead up to them being able to program the robots. They threw themselves wholeheartedly into the low tech lessons that taught them how to problem solve and persevere through tasks. My students are interacting with coding and programming on a level that they had not previously thought they were capable of accomplishing.
Thank you so much for your continued support as I try to expose my students to the opportunities provided by computer science.”

Funded Nov 26, 2018My students rarely have the opportunity to interact with technology such as drones and lessons surrounding coding. With these drones, however, I have seen a renewed vigor and joy during or sessions learning to code. One student in particular amazes me every day as he engages more deeply in the content in a way I had never seen him engaged in any of his classes before. For him alone, your donations had an overwhelming impact not even counting the other students that engage in materials.
Students have been able to problem solve and persevere through their coding errors with more investment in their programming because they want to make their drones fly. They are gaining real world skills without even realizing it because they are having fun while learning.
So I thank you for your continued support.”

Group Work and Collaboration
Funded Apr 28, 2018Group work and collaboration is imperative to the development of students, and differentiating for different learning styles to facilitate this can be a daunting task. However with the help of the funding for this project i was able to have a classroom that used group work daily in collaboration with technology in order to help my students succeed.
My students enjoy the opportunity to use technology and work with each other, it was also important for them to know that they are supported in their education from different sources and the funding of this project let them know that they matter.”
