  • Building Early STEM Skills

    Funded Feb 29, 2024

Thank you for the amazing hands on items for my students with speech and language delays. My students love using hands- on materials to learn. They are able to use these STEM materials to learn language skills such and spatial terms like "on, under, and on top," compare and contrast skills like, "big, bigger, and biggest," as well as following directions, and temporal terms such as "first and last." Play is the language of learning and my little one learn skills such as requesting, commenting in sentences, basic concepts like colors and shapes, and negating while interacting. They are having so much fun, they don't even know they are learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saks

  • Busy Hands Busy Minds

    Funded Feb 29, 2024

Thank you so much for the busy books and magnetic building blocks for my students. My students who have speech and language differences learn best through hands on activities such as these. I love creating lessons that incorporate tactile objects to teach spatial concept, such as one and off, and other prepositional phrases. The busy books are also great for the children to use during groups so that they will have, something to keep their hands busy while their friends are learning. They have loved using the pages with fidgets like the Velcro, gears, and snaps.”

  • Fidgets to Focus

    Funded Feb 27, 2024

Thank you so much for the fidgets for my students. They love having something to hold while they are waiting for their friends to practice their speech sounds. This keeps their hands busy and their minds occupied while they are learning patience. These fidgets are also useful for children who have attention and focusing issues. Having something to do with their hands helps them to focus while listening. The children have also started using them during facilitative play which helps improve and increase language skills.”

  • Speech Therapy Is Not Just Fun and Games

    Funded Feb 27, 2024

We have already had so much fun incorporating these games into speech and language therapy! The children will word so much harder when games are included into the therapy sessions! They are also learning to take- turns, wait patiently, as well as other social and emotional skills while participating in speech therapy. The silly games, like the fire truck, garbage truck, and racoon jumping out of the dumpster, keep the children engaged and involved in the lesson. This allows me to get them to say more of their speech sounds or more answer more questions from a book when they look forward to playing the game.”

  • This Is Puzzling!

    Funded Feb 27, 2024

Thank you so much for funding my project! My students have loved the fun and educational puzzles! I have used them to teach when we are practicing language concepts that are written into IEP goals, such as concept words, 'in, out, over, and under.' Targeting phonemes and speech sounds during puzzle work by selecting puzzles with animals and imitating their sounds, or those with cars and modeling environmental noises for the children to imitate. They love making the sounds and I can elicit so many sounds and words during interactive and silly play!”

Thank you for this amazing set of books to use with my students who have speech and language delays. I use literacy to create lessons to address the children's language needs. • Keeping Our Classroom Clean

    Funded Dec 7, 2023

Thank you so much for all of the cleaning supplies that you donated to my speech therapy room. Working with student in a small in close proximity call for a high level of cleanliness. I am constantly sanitizing the table and materials, as well as the floor and desks. I have already put the wipes, tissues, and broom and dustpan to good use. In speech therapy, there is a lot of looking in mouths, saying words, and practicing sounds. So, you can imagine with little ones, we need to keep our areas clean to make sure everyone is healthy.”

  • Book Companions Are Our Friends

    Funded Nov 29, 2023

Thank you so much for the gift card and laminating sheets. This is such a time saver for teachers and speech- language pathologists like myself. Teachers Pay Teachers have the most amazing book companions premade by other teachers for books that are commonly used in school and therapy. They are created by educators, so they know exactly what we need. I have already purchased all of my January book companions and printed them. Today is laminating day and I will be using those laminating sheets to protect the materials so that I can use them again next year!.”

  • I'm Talkable Two

    Funded Nov 29, 2023

Thank you so much for the augmentative communication device that you funded for my students with speech and language delays. Many of the students that I work with are limited verbal communicators or totally nonverbal. I use many types of communication devices with them. This device with two switches on it is perfect because it allow my students to make choices, answer a questions, comment words such as 'like' or 'not,' and participate in language based lessons, no matter their level of communication. Thank you for helping them to become more independent communicators.”

These books about children with speech and language disabilities will allow my students to know they aren't alone. Speech-Language Impaired students need to see others like themselves in print so they can feel represented! Many of my students struggle daily with stuttering and severe articulation disorders, like Apraxia, making it a struggle just to talk to a friend or teacher. Others are limited verbal or totally nonverbal. These children need to know there are others with the same problems and children without these concerns need to develop empathy for their disabled peers. Literacy opens many doors, one of them being to the road toward discussing struggles and differences. Typically developing and disabled children need to be aware of communication differences to promote tolerance and acceptance. These books will share speech-language struggles when I teach disability awareness in general education classes and when I teach self- awareness to the children who have disabilities themselves.
