  • Diverse Books for All!

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this important project. My students are so excited to see new books being introduced during their speech and language therapy sessions. They especially love these books because they get to see characters who resemble themselves and their friends. Diverse representation is a must! It is crucial that the children see themselves represented in the literature we use during therapy. This promotes connections from self to the text, which allows for better comprehension of the books!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saks

  • Back to School Tools

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

Thank you for the donations that allowed my project to be fully funded! Getting back into the swing of a full week of teaching and learning has been exciting and challenging. These fun school supplies have put a smile on the children's faces. They love having something a little extra to motivate them. These cool notebooks and pens are the perfect thing to get them excited about being back in classes. I am also grateful for the organization cart. I need all the help I can get, getting reorganized. This cart, that I am confident I can assemble, will provide me with a place to put all of my supplies that I need on- hand during my speech and language therapy sessions.”

  • Soft Seats for Speech!

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

Thank you so much the generous donation that supplied my students with soft seats. Since coming back from the school closure, my students have been struggling to sit in chairs at a table. They are so used to having freedom to move around at home while learning virtually. These pillow seats allow them the opportunity to have flexible seating. I can plan my lessons to be held while we sit together on the carpet or these amazing cushions. They were so excited to see the soft seats and had a fun time trying them out!”

  • Digital Resources for Speech Therapy

    Funded Oct 30, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project! Now that we have had the opportunity to work virtually, the door has been opened for a new type of resource- digital materials! The Teachers Pay Teachers website is full of ready made materials to address my students' speech and language needs that are written on their IEPs. These activities are creative and engaging, which are perfect for the children. Furthermore, they are ready to be printed and used in speech - language therapy sessions in a minutes notice. This save me valuable planning and time and that gives me more time to work directly with the students!”

  • Books About Feelings and Differences

    Funded Oct 22, 2021

Thank you so much for these amazing books that address diversity and feelings. My students love books that have character that resemble themselves. This helps them make connections to the characters and the actions in the stories. With the various changes in education due to the pandemic, the children are looking forward to new experiences and activities. These books are engaging and enjoyable, so the children have been focused while using these books. I have also used these books to create lessons to address feelings and emotions. The children needed an outlet to express themselves and speech- language therapy is the perfect place to do this. They have loved hearing the stories and talking about how the characters felt in the book. They, then, were able to make personal connections to tell how they have been feeling.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saks

  • Organization for PPE in Speech Therapy

    Funded Oct 12, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project! My students with speech impairments are so excited to have a safe and clean place to store their clear masks. They love having special masks with clear shields that they used during speech therapy. During speech and language therapy, we take a lot of time to look at mouths, tongues, lips, and placement of their speech helpers. Having clear masks has made a huge difference in the progress the children have made during therapy. The only problem is having a place to separate all of the masks and shields. These storage drawers you have funded for us will ensure that each child has their own space to keep their equipment separated and germ free!”

  • Fresh, Clean Air!

    Funded Sep 9, 2021

Thank you so much for the air purifier! This is so important to have in my small space at school. We are so thankful to have equipment like this air purifier to keep the air clean and safe for us and the children. The teachers are so thankful to have the children back in the building and learning in person. Your gift will help keep the environment safe and allow us to continue to teach in person. The teachers, parents, and children have found that teaching and learning in- person is the best way to provide an education to the children. We are thankful for donors like you who are helping us stay in the building!”

  • A Story Pod for My Sweet Peas

    Funded Aug 4, 2021

Thank you for making this project come to life! I am so excited to share this story pod and its characters with my children. The story pod allows me to play stories auditorily to my students. Students with speech and language impairments rely heavily on visuals when attending to stories. At times, we need to use materials that have them focus more on the auditory retelling of stories, without the pictures. This addresses strengthening memory skills, language development, narrative language, and retelling skills. I am thrilled to be working with my students in person again and to be able to share these fun, new materials with them!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saks

  • Diverse Books!

    Funded Aug 4, 2021

Thank you so much for the generous donation that fully funded my project! My students are a diverse group of children who deserve a diverse group of books to learn from. My children come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and have varying abilities. It is crucial that they see themselves represented in the literature we teach from. These books you have donated to us will allow my students to see characters that have similar physical and cultural that they have. This builds self- awareness and self- esteem that is so important for all children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saks

  • Little Language Learners!

    Funded Aug 4, 2021

I am so grateful to you for fully funding my project! The children and teachers are more than ready to be back in the building. The children are looking forward to learning and having these new materials will make education even more fun. The vocabulary cards you gifted us are perfect for all of my students, but especially the ones who have more significant needs. My students with speech and language impairments rely heavily on visuals. These cards provide even more cues because they are also tactile. The magnetic cards are also tactile, movable, and provide sensory feedback. Giving the children materials that used so many senses to learn allows for fun and entertaining education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saks

These books about children with speech and language disabilities will allow my students to know they aren't alone. Speech-Language Impaired students need to see others like themselves in print so they can feel represented! Many of my students struggle daily with stuttering and severe articulation disorders, like Apraxia, making it a struggle just to talk to a friend or teacher. Others are limited verbal or totally nonverbal. These children need to know there are others with the same problems and children without these concerns need to develop empathy for their disabled peers. Literacy opens many doors, one of them being to the road toward discussing struggles and differences. Typically developing and disabled children need to be aware of communication differences to promote tolerance and acceptance. These books will share speech-language struggles when I teach disability awareness in general education classes and when I teach self- awareness to the children who have disabilities themselves.
