  • Treasures and Treats

    Funded Sep 16, 2024

Thank you so much for all of the treasures and treats for our prize box at school! The children in speech and language therapy work very hard to overcome their speech and language disabilities. That is why we have implemented the store system where they work to earn stickers and then buy something from the prize box.

My students love the sensory items, fun prizes, and candy. You would be amazed how hard and how much extra effort the children will put into their therapy with just a little motivation. Your donation makes a huge difference because it gives the children something to work for and something to look forward to. Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saks

  • Pug- erific Books!

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Thank- you so much for the Pig the Pug books. My students love the hilarious characters and funny story lines. These books are perfect for language therapy because they are full of problems and solutions that allow us to ask questions and address comprehension IEP goals.

The books are also perfect because they are engaging, well illustrated and written. They include figurative language that is often an item addressed in my students' IEPs. They are able to listen, answer comprehension questions, and then retell with the colorful pictures! Thank you so much for helping them grow their language skills!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saks

These books about children with speech and language disabilities will allow my students to know they aren't alone. Speech-Language Impaired students need to see others like themselves in print so they can feel represented! Many of my students struggle daily with stuttering and severe articulation disorders, like Apraxia, making it a struggle just to talk to a friend or teacher. Others are limited verbal or totally nonverbal. These children need to know there are others with the same problems and children without these concerns need to develop empathy for their disabled peers. Literacy opens many doors, one of them being to the road toward discussing struggles and differences. Typically developing and disabled children need to be aware of communication differences to promote tolerance and acceptance. These books will share speech-language struggles when I teach disability awareness in general education classes and when I teach self- awareness to the children who have disabilities themselves.
