They say that a picture is worth 1,000 words. I am asking you to give my students thousands of words!! I am asking for wordless picture books to empower my young students who are still learning to read! Non-readers really struggle to read independently, but desperate want that feeling and pride that comes with independent reading. Utilizing wordless books is a terrific way to build important literacy skills, including listening skills, vocabulary, comprehension and an increased awareness of how stories are structured. Most importantly, my students LOVE them; they can really pore over the pictures and create their own story in their own words. I cannot wait to explore these books with the my students and will have to prepare myself for some creative storytelling!
