IPublish
Funded Feb 12, 2012During this informational-rich year of school, our kindergarteners were able to capture key moments of discovery using the digital cameras which your support so generously provided. Many of these were of sea animals and our own class pet, and were crucial to our students in order to confirm their hypotheses about what particular animals ate or how they behave.
By donating cameras, your contribution has opened up an entire new world for our soon-to-be-first-graders, one in which they have become empowered to record information in order to present their ideas to others, regardless of reading or writing ability. This medium has been met with excitement and endless enthusiasm, as students then added their own photographs to class big books and projects.
Thank your for giving our students the opportunity to become active explorers.
I am sure it is something they will carry with them as a valuable experience as they grow as learners, and as future generations come through our doors to explore the world around them.”

Ms. Rogosin
Red Fish, Blue Fish, Cool Fish
Funded Nov 1, 2011Your generous contribution allowed all of our kindergarteners to participate in a series of hands-on workshops at the NY Aquarium. Students explored dorsal fins of sharks, fish scales, and penguin and shark behavior with on-site educators. Besides the interactive nature of this set of workshops, which, without your help, would have been difficult to organize and see through to fruition.
Students then gained momentum in their own research as they utilized informational texts to gather and synthesize information. Delving more deeply into their specific topics, they created related projects that showcased what they learned about their animals.
Your assistance in making this Sea Study and Informational Unit of Study successful is greatly-appreciated, and gave all students, regardless of ability to afford it, the opportunity t engage in higher-learning activities.
Thank you again for your support.”

Funded Sep 11, 2011No words can describe the excitement and anticipation with which all of our kindergarteners awaited our first trip as a grade, to the apple orchard, and all of it was made possible because of your support.
Many of our students' families would not otherwise have been able to participate, as out-of-the-city locales require fees for buses and both that and the cost of the apples might have caused some to families to have their children skip this experience. Thanks to you all, each child was able to pick apples, bring them home to share, go on a hay-ride on one of the oldest farms in the area, and study them in different contexts, cutting them, making apple prints, and exploring food products made from apples.
Thank you for your combined efforts to have a great start to the school year, and for going above and beyond to build our community of learners though first-hand experiences.
Whenever our students think back on their year in kindergarten, I'm sure their apple-picking adventure will be part of their favorite memories.
Thank you.”

Funded May 31, 2011When I received the set of books, it was a very welcome sight in my classroom. This year, my students range in abilities, from pre-reader to 2nd grade levels, and interesting them all in books on their level would have been a challenge.
Even among my group of extended-day students, who were reluctant readers at first, introduction of these materials has broadened their view of books and reading as a whole. Several now choose to read over play during choice time, and seem eager to explore all of the books they can.
AKJ books provide just the right amount of motivation through pictures and words to foster early reader behaviors. Thank you so much for making this set of books available to my class, and to future classes.”

Funded Apr 28, 2011Through your generosity, not only was last year's class and enrichment able to form their own molds for casting during our Prehistoric unit, but his year's class has had the opportunity to use clay as a media to explore basic concepts such as "longer" and "shorter" using clay, and to explore making three-dimensional forms. As many have shared that they "never used clay before," this is a wonderful way to expose them to a whole new world of thinking and creating.
We will continue to use these resources throughout the year.
Thank you so much for helping another generation of kindergrteners through your thoughtfulness.”

iPad for Cross-Curricular Literacy
Funded Feb 11, 2011Your generous donations have enabled my gifted kindergarten classroom to reap the benefits of new technology, as it applies to various academic areas. One of the first purposes for the iPad that I envisioned involved uploading applications that would allow books to "come to life" for my students, whether animated books were projected on a screen for whole-group interaction, followed by inspired readers responses, or small-group or partnership activities that deepened their understanding of a topic or provided them with a different version of a story. Students were easily-engaged and learned to navigate the iPad quickly.
In addition, the small, hand-held video camera allowed students to observe other groups and to record their activities in Enrichment Cluster programs has also been an invaluable addition.. Having these l resources has made topics more-relevant to my students, and has empowered them, to some degree, in terms of choices they make.
Your donations are greatly appreciated, and will serve my current class as they become reading buddies, as well as future classes to come.
Thank you.”

HP Power For My Students
Funded Feb 5, 2011Thank you so much for adding this HP laptop to our technology resources in the classroom. Having an extra-large screen, it is the perfect device for two students to share as they maneuver through challenging math and reading games, like those they engage in in Computer class, such as Trudy's Playhouse.
Having this additional computer has allowed more students to have more time utilizing technology first-hand, and to develop problem-solving skills as well as social skills, as they take turns choosing games and turns.
Combined with the other resources which your generous contributions have provided, our classroom
is now a technology-rich learning environment, for both my current students and for future classes to come.
Thank you for helping me achieve this goal in my classroom. I know my students thank you as well.”

Funded Dec 27, 2010Your wonderful and generous donation of the wireless printer and copier has made Center Time a very productive time. Students are empowered to design, research, diagram, and print their creations.
Having access to a copier that is cost-efficient in terms of ink has also been a bonus, as I can copy activities when the school copier is down, create and send last-minute reminder notes, and, as on one occasion, found teachable moments, as when a former student brought in an article on dinosaurs to share---I was able to copy it on the spot to add to our references.
I cannot imagine not having this wonderful addition to our classroom.
Thank you so much for helping us make technology a reality in the classroom.”

Funded Dec 20, 2010Your generous donation of the ASUS mini-laptop is such a welcome addition to our classroom!
When my students choose centers, they now have more options available to them. They now know that up to six children can be in the Computer center at one time, and they are free to take the wireless laptop to any part of the room to work. I can have three separate programs running to reinforce reading, writing, and mathematical skills, all while the students are enjoying the learning activities.
When the students create a story or set of images, they are able to send them to print.
They enjoy being empowered to produce their own work to share using this technology, and without the frustration of a slow or outdated computer.
Thank you so much.”

Funded Dec 15, 2010As we proceed with our in-depth Sea Study, our students are beginning to make connections between modern-day animals and their ancestors. As their curiosity grows, opportunities arise to connect this unit to our enrichment unit on Prehistoric Life.
My young scientists are eagerly looking forward to delving into books, materials, and hands-on activities as they begin their nonfiction research. These unique experiences will be shared with their reading buddies and Brown Bag lunch participants, as well.
Thank you for giving my class the tools to strive to reach the stars, learning about the present by digging into the past.
Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
Thank you again.”
