Funded Aug 22, 2014The incubator has been such a wonderful addition to our classroom this year. In April we studied a unit on farm animals and visited the farm. When we returned from the farm we placed our 6 duck eggs inside the incubator. We read books about the duck lifecycle and created a count down chart to keep track of the 28 days that it takes for them to hatch. Students kept a duck journal where they drew and wrote about what they saw happening with the eggs. We candled the eggs so we could see inside on days 10 and 20. Students were amazed when what was only veins the first time, turned into a moving baby duck.
The students were in class when the first baby duck emerged from the egg. They described their feelings as "happy, excited, surprised and amazed". Students learned that they need water, food, heat and a clean tub to grow and be healthy. When the ducks were big enough we took them outside to play in the grass and kiddie pool.
This is something that our students will never forget. I am so thankful for your generosity and support. Without you this amazing learning experience would not have been possible.
Students in kindergarten for years to come will benefit from your donation. Thank you so very much!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Reisenfeld
