  • Safety From Our Seats

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

This week, I welcomed my second grade students back to my classroom. We were both beyond excited to get into the classroom and start to get back to what feels like a normal school year. While so much is still unknown and the routines and procedures may be different from years past, my students and myself included remain optimistic and happy to be back inside our school building.

One of the new items in my classroom this year is their lap desks with dry-erase contact paper that I was able to apply to each and every desk (whew! It was a process!). Aside from loving anything they can use dry-erase markers on, the idea of being able to move around the room while doing work was a great way to keep social distance and remain engaged.

I can not begin to thank you enough for your belief in this project and generosity. This project was one that I felt was necessary to achieve safe and structured instruction and has already proven to do so. My second grade students thank you for brining a bit of fun to completing assignments (yes, they think working on the floor/carpet is fun!). I, too, thank you for making this project a success.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

  • Summer Swag for Second Graders

    Funded May 18, 2021

I was lucky enough to have this amazing project funded right before my students left for summer vacation. The items arrived and were better than I had imagined. The bags were perfect and everything came together in the most amazing way (even my colleagues were jealous!). Each student was able to receive a Summer Swag Bag filled with a TON of games, snacks and goodies. Their faces lit up at the site of the bag alone - which, by the way, were pretty cool!

Due to covid and the restrictions we had at our school, I planned for students to pick up their bags during assigned days and times. Some of my students had never seen the school or myself in person. It was a joy to be able to meet them and provide each with a little something extra after what was a very challenging year for all. This event provided an opportunity to meet many of the parents I had only zoomed with, making this experience even more special.

I can not thank you enough for your generosity, for believing in this project and for supporting myself and my students. I continue to be beyond thankful for the kindness of those I have never met and the contributions made by complete strangers. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

  • Loving Black Lives: An Elementary Library

    Funded Apr 26, 2021

Part of our day includes a morning meeting where social and emotional learning takes place. We share "peaches and pits", we allow for our classmates to share questions, concerns or general feelings about life and always affirm our love for one another. This year has been slightly different than others and our morning meeting has taken on a whole new tone. Time spent sharing lasts longer, we have a safe space for brave students to always speak their mind and I have an opportunity to share stories with my students that highlights acceptance, love and diversity. All of this takes place while the word is changing and my students are at the center of a global progression.

The books that we received through this project not only aid to my instruction, they reinforce the positive messagess we share with one another during these meetings. With books like these, I am able to expose my students to characters and situations that mirror their own. My students see themselves in the books that I read, empowering them and affirming how amazing they are.

We thank you for providing books to a library that has become a staple in our learning and daily discussions. I look forward to receiving new students that will get to experience these texts in future years.”

  • Positive Incentive With Pets

    Funded Apr 13, 2021

This is the gift that keeps on giving. My students' eyes lit up when I began explaining a new incentive system in our classroom. The idea of having their own class pets brought such smiles to each and every student. Not only were the "pets" beyond adorable and inclusive of every type of animal, the accessories were even better. Who wouldn't want to earn a donut or piece of sushi for their new pet? My students were eager to discover how new items could be acquired, adding to habitat of their pet.

Already, my students have become more aware of their own behavior and strive towards positive recognition. They are on top of their own points and how many more need to be earned for their next reward. I've noticed an improvement in participation as well as enthusiasm to complete assignments.

Many of my students have earned a classroom pet and have added to their habitat. I love that this is an ever-changing reward system that is unique to each student. Thank you for your contribution towards an already successful project.”

  • Fidget with Fidelity

    Funded Mar 25, 2021

I absolutely love that this project was funded so quickly! I can't wait to show my students that we not only have fidgets but how we can use these tools as a way to visualize mathematical concepts. It is so important to provide students with hands-on, tactile manipulatives and I could not be any more happy to have these items for my students and future classes.

Your kindness and appreciation for education and teachers is so greatly appreciated. During a time when things are not so normal in the education world, it has been a struggle to keep up. By creating projects like this one, which you so generously funded, I feel like I am providing my students with an exciting way to learn. It's always great to see students light up when learning is fun. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

  • For the Love of Listening

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

I can't begin to express my gratitude for a project that was created only days before being fulfilled. Already, my students are in my classroom learning with their headphones. Their excitement was contagious as I opened each box and explained how they now have their very own pair of headphones to use while working on their Chromebooks.

Learning in a virtual environment that has recently become hybrid with both in person and home instruction has been a challenge. Giving my students an extra tool that aids to their ability to complete assignments, focus, and listen to instruction is something that you provided.

It is because of you that my students have these headphones and it is because of you that they will be to work in a hybrid environment with success. Thank you tons from my each and every second grade student at Lamberton Elementary!”

  • Working with Writers for Wonderful Results

    Funded Dec 29, 2020

From the bottom of my heart - thank you. Being a teacher right now is difficult enough. We've had to learn to build a plane while flying, taking things day by day. As challenging as virtual instruction has been, I have been able to find some happiness in seeing my students, all 36 of them! even if it is in a small square.

Writing is a favorite subject of mine and when I am able to teach in school, students have the most wonderful experience writing stories, recipes and letters. It is a subject that requires a lot of discussion and one-on-one editing opportunities. It is a subject that I feel allows me to give students individual attention and work on improvement at any individual level or skill. We use a variety of supplies to write, edit, mark and publish our written pieces. Writing in Mrs. Morgan's class is known to be a very special time of the day.

Unfortunately, with virtual instruction in place, writing has been one the the hardest subjects to teach. We are no longer able to write with paper and pencil, edit with a variety of color or publish on "fancy" paper. Teaching writing on the computer is something completely different and something I have had to adapt to.

I have decided to go back to the ways of my room and is it your donations that has made this project a success. Your funding allows students to have the necessary materials they need to pre-write, compose and publish written pieces. Each and every student will now have their very own "writers bag", filled with everything they need to be a successful writer. My second graders thank you. I thank you. We are all beyond excited to get started!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

  • We're Going, Going, Back, Back to Second Second!

    Funded Nov 8, 2020

Your kindness and generosity has blown me away (once again). I am never short of astonishment by the kindness of friends, family and strangers. Thank you all for donating to this extremely important project.

With Covid-19 still on our radar and the back-and-fourth argument of in person instruction versus virtual, it has been my job as an educator to plan ahead for a time when we will all meet in person (something that I so desperately want).

Planning for instruction is no longer enough. The safety and happiness of my students during a pandemic is at the forefront if my mind. This project allows my students to keep materials separate and safe for learning and clean from cross-contamination. Though this was something I never thought I would have to think about, it is our reality. Thanks to your donations, I now have one less worry and my students have one extra form of protection during these difficult times.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morgan

  • Everyone Needs A Pencil!

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

Recently, our class has become a bit more interactive with the help of you donations. Our iPad now has the capability to serve as a whiteboard as if we were sitting in a real classroom. Having a space to write freely, whether it's for phonics or math, has provided me with the opportunity to show students exactly what it is that I'm creating, drawling or transcribing.

During our live meetings, students are now able to view my device. With the help of a few apps and some Quicktime assistance, we are able to link the iPad to live instruction. Students can now watch me write, spell or draw in real time!

Students love being able to watch their teacher mimic the instructions they provide. When students have the opportunity to explain and "teach" others, I am able to transcribe their thought process for the entire class to see. Having the pencil has truly enhanced students involvement and allowed for a visual that was missing in my online instruction. For that, I am incredibly thankful!”

    Mrs. Morgan

  • An Apple a Day

    Funded Aug 29, 2020

Upon receiving this iPad, I immediately got to work researching the best way to integrate my new device with my existing laptops so that my double screen setup would not only benefit my viewing ability but also my ability to interact with my students.

Right away, I was able to purchase an app that allows me to "slide" windows between the two devices. I am able to always keep an eye on all 37 on my second grade students while presenting my screen or model an assignment/activity for my students. With an extra screen available, sharing windows with my students and providing them with an opportunity to view what I view has truly improved my virtual instruction.

Recently, I was able to add an iPad pencil to a Donor's Choose project which will amp up the use if my iPad. I will now be able to use my iPad as a virtual whiteboard, showing students (in real time) how to create equations, edit writing pieces, use specific marking tools when identifying phonemic sounds and blends and so much more.

Having the iPad has not only enhanced my ability to teach but also my students ability to grasp new concepts. I could not be more thankful for your kindness and generosity. It is through people like you that I have been able to afford my class with tools that aid to their virtual experience (and mine!).”
