Every child deserves a seat at the table; but, not every seat fits every child. These flexible seating sets will allow my students places to sit and learn many different skills in various arrangements in my autism classroom. Each year, I advocate for my students to get chairs and tables that fit their bodies and that are not cracked or have sharp corners from wear. Our class often gets the surplus chairs and desks that other classes do not have space for or no longer want to use. My students do a lot of center-based learning; having soft seats that can be used on the carpet or at a table will allow us to transition smoothly and comfortably within our classroom throughout the day. My students grow from kindergarten to second grade with me, so having seats that are not too big and tall or too short and small is essential. Finally, knowing that these seating sets belong to our classroom will provide additional security that our seating and tables do not "go missing" or become "repurposed" over the summer. With these seating sets, I envision my students being comfortable, collaborating with one another, and feeling safe in a space that was designed with their sensory and physical needs in mind. Thank you for allowing that vision to become a reality!
