STEM Enrich Students’ Academics
Funded Jul 12, 2019What Fun! Thank you for your generous donations! The STEM bins help students explore, create, and problem-solve. The Stem Bins came with many bins filled with wooden blocks, sticks, building bricks, magnetic tiles, play dough, and wooden building planks to name a few. At first students opened only one bin at a time building with limited materials. As they learn more and collaborate with peers, they are using multiple bins in their creations. Playdough is the glue they use to hold pieces together and they are getting very creative. I have seen buildings, bridges, people and even food.
I love the way the STEM bins provide hands-on activities for maker space time. First graders need fine motor practice opportunities to work with their hands and develop muscles. Several of my students are entering school for the first time as a first grader and they struggle with academics as well as socialization. These STEM bins excite them and encourage them to read and work with others. They feel confident in their ability to create anything and verbally share with others! My students will be challenged with exciting new careers in their futures and these STEM bins are helping to create a new mindset! Thank You!”

Funded May 15, 2019We are thrilled with the Boogie Boards and use them daily! The boards have engaged my students and allowed me to see their progress during math and science! We have also used them for multiple choose questions during language arts. The children love using the stylus and the magic erase button. I do not have to supply markers, erasers, or marker boards. Thanks to you, students are having fun, engaging with technology, all while mastering new skills. They look forward to those times during the day when we use them. We video tape their activities and send them to parents. The parents feel excited that their children have the opportunity to love what they are working on at school.”

Funded May 29, 2019Thank you so much for funding our engineering and STEM process project. My students were so excited to open the boxes and create machines. Some students agreed to follow the directions enclosed, others chose to create their own designs. Having the Gears, Gears, Gears kits have given students a voice and the feeling of importance and value. The learning experience is fun, and students are eager to learn more about machines in motion. As students work as a team, they are also receiving more support, and are gaining confidence. Collaborative learning has helped my shy students express themselves. We so are grateful for your generosity. This school-year is going to be amazing because of you!”

Funded Sep 9, 2018Words cannot explain the sense of awe and excitement my students have over the caterpillars. They are filled with joy as they watch them grow. They are also unsure how to feel about them shedding their skin. We video taped the process because they wanted to see it again. The students are abounding with questions and discussing differing theories. My heart bursts with love as I observe their interest and concern for these tiny creatures. I am so thankful for your generous donation to make this opportunity possible. Your gift is turning my students into scientists who now are closely exploring the world around them, comparing what they are watching with other insects and animals in their environment.”

Funded Feb 18, 2019Thank you so much for choosing my classroom to support! My students and I are very grateful and appreciate your kindness. We have already begun using the ipad and Dash robot to learn coding and apply mathematics and science skills. My students are collaborating with their peers to solve problems. Students have practiced math skills on the ipad and showing progress in number sense. The entire class participates in Maker Space every Friday to celebrate the week's successes and accomplishments. Coding the Dash Robot has become a favorite activity. You have given us a very useful resource that we will use on a daily basis. Thank You, again!!!"”

Funded Dec 6, 2018Thank you for providing visual models and manipulative's for my students to master math fluency strategies. These math games have been both a teaching tool as well as games for the students to apply understanding. My first grade students are learning to reason with numbers and internalize numerical concepts.
Not only are the students recognizing number relationships but they are having fun! Their ability to physically manipulate objects to solidify their thinking has improved their understanding.
Students are videotaping their understanding for their family and peers to watch. They are proud of their ability to demonstrate math concepts! Thank you for your generosity that brings joy to my students this year and for years to come.”

Funded Dec 9, 2018Students were so excited to see the colorful clipboards! Some children have a favorite color clipboard while, others are wanting to use a different color for each project. They now sit wherever they choose for comfort. My students are not only successful with math facts and practicing high-frequency words but, use the clipboards when writing in their journals and during more formal writing assignments.
The stands help us to keep the clipboards organized and available where students pick up their writing supplies. The children take pride in returning the boards to their stands after writing. These basic supplies have given us a great start to organized writing while allowing flexible seating! Thank you for providing a successful start to our school year and for years to come!”

Funded Oct 8, 2018It is so exciting to watch the students use the Osmo Genius kit you have provided. They are always the first items picked during Genius Hour and I use them for strategic intervention. The Number kit has tiles students physically manipulate to count, add, or subtract. They learn while playing to become the number master.
The Tangram set includes shapes that must be placed in the correct spot to complete the picture students see on the screen. Blinking lights encourage children for each shape that is correctly added to the figure, challenging them to try increasingly difficult levels.
The Word box is the favorite in our classroom. Students compete using tiles to write words pushing their color letter tile in line with the screen to be the first to complete the word. They get so involved and animated while playing there is usually a crowd watching and waiting for a turn!
My students still learn much through books and reading but this new way practicing basic skills is much more fun and keeps them engaged. My students have the opportunity to experience hands-on learning with concrete examples because of your generosity.”

Funded Aug 28, 2018Thank you so much for helping my students be healthy and happy in our classroom. Most children would not be so excited about cleaning supplies and Kleenex tissue. My students could not wait to start cleaning. We are learning healthy habits by using tissues to wipe noses instead of hands. Students are learning more than just academics. These supplies are helping them to learn responsibility and being part of a community. They work to help me to keep our room germ free. With continued focus on healthy habits I hope to have fewer absences!
Thank you! We appreciate you!"”

Funded Jul 8, 2018Oh my, how exciting to see my students beg to go to the literacy corner to read! School has just begun and the children love the Readers Theater scripts and Masks. My students spend many hours practicing reading in a variety of ways.
Some of my students can read simple text while others are still learning. The K-1 scripts provide pictures with harder words making reading possible for the beginning reader. The 1-2 scripts provide just enough challenge for those students who are reading but still sound out words. The masks add a theatrical element to the reading allowing students to hide behind their character and they seem much braver in exploring those words they do not know.
We will get our chromebooks this week and begin videotaping student performances and sharing them with student families. Thank you for your generosity in aiding first graders with our performing arts reading theater. Your donation has enhanced the future of each child who has the opportunity to build fluency, develop pacing, as well as expression while practicing reading in a fun and interactive way!!!”
