Helpful Headphones
Funded Dec 4, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donations to our headphones project! Your generosity has really made an impact in our classroom. These learning tools have greatly improved the students' experiences during their use of our online programs. Students are now excited to get onto Lexia English knowing they have quality headphones that will allow them to complete their tasks.
Thanks in part to these resources, students are thriving and learning more and more English as their time on this program has increased. Knowing there are community partners who invest in our future generations is truly amazing. We could not have received these quality tools without your help.
Thank you again for making our classroom a better place to learn!”

Funded Sep 25, 2022Thank you so much for choosing to donate to by bilingual books project. These resources have truly made a positive impact in my classroom.
With the use of these books, students have been able to see the connection between words and their home languages to those in English. They are able to practice reading skills, all while also being able to access the text. Students are also getting great use of these books as they write in their journals each day. This has built their confidence in writing in English!
Thank you so very much for your generosity. It truly means so much to me.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 4 other donors.Flexible Seating for Fabulous Fourth Graders!
Funded May 4, 2022Thank you so very much for donating to my flexible seating project. This year I welcomed a group of newcomers into my classroom and these wobble stools have surely made an impact. These students are not only newcomers to my classroom, but also to the United States. My students may come from different places all over the world, but there is one thing they surely have in common, which is that they are children! Kids love to move! These wobble stools are surely a hit amongst them. Students use them at their desks, during independent work, while reading, and even as tables. These have truly made a positive impact in the classroom. This flexible seating allows children the ability to move without distracting others, which is so very important. These are used on a daily basis and will be for many years to come. A very bug heartfelt THANK YOU!”

Funded Dec 14, 2019Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Winter was the perfect time for our Nugget couch to arrive! With crazy New England weather, we do not find ourselves going out to recess much in the colder months. This couch provided such fun and creativity for students. They made forts and houses, built towers and played games inside. It was such fun to watch children be children and let their imaginations soar.
Not only did the Nugget couch allow for creative free time, but it also posed as phenomenal flexible seating during academic time as well. Two students would use the Nugget during the morning academic hours and two students in the afternoon. They were able to position themselves and the cushions in a way that created an optimal learning space for their individual selves. Some students liked to sit next to one another, some liked to stack the cushions to sit, others laid it out flat. It was so interesting to see what worked for each child!
Those who sat on our Nugget during instructional time were called "Nuggeteers." Oh how they all loved being a Nuggeteer! The word brought a smile to all our faces.
It pains me to write this thank you in the past tense, but with these unprecedented times, upon us, our building is of course shut down and our Nugget currently lies sleeping in the classroom. I am so very thankful for your generosity! I cannot wait to watch what September has in store for our classroom Nugget when a whole new group of students gets to enjoy it, but I will never forget my first group of Nugeteers!”

Nonfiction Classroom Library
Funded Nov 29, 2017WOW! What an impact your generosity has made! My students are over the moon with their new nonfiction books and couldn't wait to dive right into reading them. Students have been sharing with me all the new facts they are learning (like information about famous people to a certain animal's habitat) as well as showing me how they are putting their newly learned reading strategies to use.
Having new materials always freshens a student's outlook on a task. Before your generous donations, the children were growing tired of our current classroom library resources. They needed something to liven the task of independent reading time, and these new materials did the trick. I cannot believe how quickly the students started putting their reading strategies to use. These strategies range from finding the meaning of an unknown word to identifying the author's text structure.
Our nonfiction reading test scores skyrocketed in Term 2 thanks to the use of these new books! I cannot believe what a difference they have made. These text sets have assured that each student in my classroom is equipped with multiple nonfiction books in his or her personal book bag. Most importantly, these books are on their personal reading levels.
I wish you could all see firsthand the joy these books have brought my students. It is people like you that make my job so much easier. Thank you for believing in our future. These children are growing and learning so much thanks to your generosity. My sincerest thanks to you all!”

Reader's Workshop Materials
Funded Jul 8, 2016Your kindness and generosity has allowed me to take my reading instruction to a whole new level. The easel and notepads have given me the opportunity to create colorful and informational anchor charts based on our ELA focus skill of the day. The easel charts focus on one skill at a time and each skill builds on the previous one. For instance, when students are learning how to ask questions as they read, I am able to make an anchor chart that shows the 4 types of questions they should be asking themselves. Each day we talk about a new type of question, but also review the one from the day before. These charts are then hung around the classroom and serve as reminders for students.
My students and I sit around the easel each morning and I am able to explicitly teach them the skills they need to become better readers. The students are then sent off to their independent reading spots around the classroom and are able to practice these new skills. I have seen an increase in the love of reading by using this model! Students are always engaged and focused on their reading!
I have seen such a change during my ELA block this year. I know that because of this easel, I was able to fully implement a Readers' Workshop model of instruction. This has allowed students to gain a better understanding of material.
Thank you again for thinking of my students. I am blown away by your generosity!”

Reading Resources
Funded Nov 16, 2015There are few words that can honestly portray my thanks to you for funding my classroom's reading resources project. A simple thank you just does not seem like enough. Thanks to your generosity, not only has my reading instruction changed for the better, but my students love for reading has as well.
Before we received these resources, it was hard to get my students to enjoy reading nonfiction texts. The introduction of one often resulted in pained facial expressions, that if could talk, would have been saying, "noooo!" It was obvious that the resources being used were not THE resources for obtaining and keeping students' attention. The Reading Resources Bundle has completely changed that. Not only do my students love reading these nonfiction texts, they can't wait to share their new knowledge with others! It's simply amazing when a student excitedly comes to me and says, "Mrs. Perry, did you know that ice cream was invented in China?!" They are feeding their brains with so much knowledge and it is amazing to witness.
These new reading resources have sparked more complex thinking in my students. The texts are paired with questions that allow the students to dig deeper into what they are reading, instead of just skimming the surface solely with comprehension questions. To look around the room as the students use these materials each day, is to look around at a teacher's dream! The new reading materials have worked to completely engage my students in the act of reading and thinking.
A million thank yous!!!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Perry
