Funded Aug 28, 2024A tremendous thank you for your donation of materials to my classroom. As many of you know, I work with a diverse group of middle schoolers who have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that allow them to access classroom curriculum successfully.
I created this project to support my 8th grade students as they get ready to move to high school by creating transition programs that support their learning and understanding of federal laws and protections that allow them to learn within the general education setting. Learning about laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Act and Americans with Disabilities Act has supported their understanding of themselves and increased their ability to advocate for their needs within the school setting.
Using the medical folders requested, each student has an individual "workbook" that has information about the laws above, but more importantly, their IEP. Each student, over the year, will have the ability to dive into their IEP so that they can gain a better knowledge of self and how they learn so that as they move forward in their education and as community members, they understand and can ask for what they require to be successful.
The 7 Habits texts and workbooks as well as the life and social skills workbooks, cards, and games (and snacks) have allowed us to spend time together learning how to be active members of our school community as well as to help build independence.
Your gift has and will continue to change lives.”

Making Math Fun
Funded Sep 16, 2020I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom, to my students. Without you, I would not be able to support my students during remote learning in as meaningful and strategic ways. I am beyond thankful for your contributions and am excited to share some of the ways I have utilized the iPad and pencil to support online learning for my English language learners and special education students. My students are resilient and have adapted to this new learning environment and your donation has helped me facilitate their ability to adapt.
Just this past week, during math classes, I used the iPad during small group instruction and group work just as I would use a whiteboard during instruction. I have also used it testing. During small group instruction, I work with groups of about 5-6 students with diverse needs. With the iPad, I was able to see the students on my computer screen and cast the iPad to the student's screens. I was able to provide them step-by-step examples and explanations of various concepts and skills. For my Algebra kiddos, this week, we were working on scatter plots and box-and-whisker plots. In 8th grade math, we worked on linear and non-linear graphs, inverse variation, and modeling data patterns. In 7th grade math, we began a new unit on integers and rational numbers. In science, we continue to learn about harnessing human energy. All of these lessons would have fallen flat without the iPad. The iPad allowed me to show them exactly what we were learning. To make real-world connections between the content and their lives. Using the iPad also allows me to save the notes we collect throughout the class and save them so I can then post them and students can access them later as needed instead of being erased away when I clean my whiteboard. The iPad also enables me to take quick student polls and create exit tickets to ensure their understanding. This allows me to better plan and adapt the following classes to ensure that they meet the students' needs. During testing, I am able to again, project an accommodated/modified version of the test for my students so that they can receive the appropriate testing supports that are typically provided on paper for them.
Your donation has helped my students thrive in this new learning environment and I will forever be grateful.”
