Playing with centers is so important not just for little hands and fingers, but also for their minds! Not only is it fun but it helps solidify social skills gained in a child's early developmental years! My PreK students will be using the baby dolls, trucks, puzzles, dollhouse and accessories for imaginative play during center time. Playing in centers such as these can lead children to use their imaginations while developing their social, emotional and language skills. These types of centers help children learn to interact with others and lead directly to real life situations within a child’s environment. Playing with puzzles has significant impacts on a child's physical skills. It helps in developing fine motor skills through the coordination of small muscles. Through grasping pieces and matching jigsaw pieces together, children also improve their spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination. Research shows that unstructured, self-directed PLAY is essential for healthy development that is why I choose these centers to add to my classroom.
