As their Math and Science teacher, I’m always trying to find the new resources to enhance learning of these STEAM subjects for my students, while tying in the other aspects of STEAM. To reach this goal, I have attended many workshops and trainings to help me continue my growth as an educator. During these professional developments, something that always stands out to me are the vast majority of great technological resources that are available that would help my students grow as Scientists and Mathematicians.
Chromebooks will dramatically enhance our classroom. My students would be able to work in Google classroom, research for Science projects, play Prodigy to practice Math content, complete activities and assignments on Study Island to increase their academic rigor in Math and Science, and so much more.
Right now, my students have to rely on old, recycled Netbooks from the high school. Even though I have four available in my classroom, they have to be plugged in at all times and they constantly have to be restarted because they shut down in the middle of activities or they glitch up and can no longer be used. Through your donations, I can get started on having a class set of Chromebooks so that all of my students will begin to be able to utilize technology that is dependable. They could practice typing when they start working on reports for projects and learn how to navigate when doing online activities, to help them become more digitally literate.
In Oklahoma, 5th graders have to take end of the year tests in Math, Science, and English Language Arts, including writing an essay, on computers. I want my students to be comfortable using computers so they will be prepared.
