There's a Paint Party in the Art Room!
Funded Oct 3, 2017My students and I wanted to thank you so much for your help in acquiring table-top easels for our art classes. Our 5th grade students have been using the easels to work upright while creating their acrylic paintings on canvas board! The students have been working on an artist-inspired theme called "Starry Night Chicago," where students learned how to add layers to create colorful effects in the nighttime sky, similar to Van Gogh's artistic style.
When I first unpacked the materials, the students were curious because they saw bins filled with wooden contraptions, but once I unfolded the easels, the students were jumping up and down excited when they saw that the project was funded! They could not wait to start their paintings, which they shared with me quite often as I passed them in the hallways!
Now that many of the "Starry Nights" have been completed, the students will not only have their artworks on display, but they will reflect on their progress through artist statements. There will be other classes using the tabletop easels for their painting as well, especially since working upright has helped with their posture. In the past, students would accidentally get their elbows covered in paint while working flat on the table. With working upright, we had fewer painted elbows and happier students!
Again, thank you so much for your help. It means the world to my students!”

Mrs. O'Hanley
Technology and Art: iPads Inspiring Creative Thinking
Funded Mar 29, 2014I wanted to thank you again for your generosity in funding my project "Ipads in the Art Room." From the day the ipad and accessories arrived, we have been utilizing this amazing technology resource. Now that our school has an online art gallery on Artsonia, students have been lining up to photograph and upload their projects for parents to view.
Besides the online gallery, students have been using the ipad to add their photographs to digitally created artworks. This interactive tool has been a great way for students to work with and discuss famous paintings, like "The Scream" by Edvard Munch. The students loved posing like the painting and guessing what the character was screaming about!
We have also been using many drawing apps that help improve craftsmanship and fine motor development. When students struggle with their shapes or drawings, the digital apps help them practice without using up any paper!
Thank you again for helping bring this wonderful tool to my students. I can't wait to see what future projects we create with the ipad!”

Funded Nov 25, 2013My students are incredibly grateful for the books they have received for the art room. At first, students were curious as to why they were "reading" in the art room, when they're so used to creating projects! When I shared how books can inspire great art projects, they've been flocking to the art library ever since! I am so proud of my students' ability to imagine great things when they are creating in the art room!
Throughout the year and in each grade level, we will now have more opportunities to combine literacy with art, combining common core with visual arts! Thank you so much for your generosity for my students!”

Funded Mar 22, 2013I can't fully express my excitement and gratitude for your donations to my project. It's amazing to see that you share my vision for reaching children through art.
The materials that you have funded helped students to create their own model magic monsters, helping them to understand 3-dimensional concepts, color theory, and design. Students learned how to properly mix amounts of colors with the clay, as well as how to create designs on their monsters that made each sculpture unique.
Best of all, the students practiced teamwork and responsibility with their clay. When one students was out of a color, another would offer some of theirs so everyone could complete their project. I am so proud of my students!”
