  • STEM During WWII - Creating Models

    Funded Aug 30, 2023

Thank you very much for supporting my instructional materials for the STEM During WWII Class. I just know that these materials will enhance the students understanding of WWII and the innovations that occured. It is important that our students learn about the sacrifices our ancestors faced to provide a more stable and safe world.”

  • A Wrinkle in Time - A Graphic Novel Approach

    Funded Mar 20, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting my project! My 5th grade Virtual Classroom had a shared experience. We learned about the fantasy/science fiction genre using a classic, A Wrinkle in Time. The graphic novel provided an engaging way to provide instruction. We read this story together as a "play". Used software to create a one page story using cells. Students reflected in writing after each chapter and class discussion. We ended our school year by watching the newest version of the movie on Disney+. I am excited to announce, all the students thought the book was so much better than the movie. We identified the similarities and differences using a Venn Diagram.

Thank you again for providing me copies of this classic to use with my students for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicpan-Brown

  • Code Talkers - WWII and Native Americans

    Funded Oct 20, 2021

Thank you for your donation. My 5th grade students and I finished reading Code Talkers. We participated in deep discussions around Missions Schools, Navajo traditions and culture, the mistreating of indigenous people, the role of the Navajo Marines, Iwo Jima, and created our own codes.

Using a common text supported my integrated instruction. We were learning about history, cultures, and practicing our reading and writing strategies.

I encourage you to read the studetn reflections that are included in the images. I know you will find them very insightful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicpan-Brown

  • Exploring Time: Globes, Flashlights, and Ice Cream

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

My students were thrilled to receive materials that would allow them to create models in their homes. We used the globes and flashlights to model the time of day and seasons. We also used them to cast shadows when learning about the moon phases. They supported their understanding when showing the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies. We celebrated our planet research projects by eating astronaut ice cream and then comparing our experiences with store-bought ice cream!

Thank you for supporting my virtual classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicpan-Brown

  • A CHEESY Chemistry Exploration

    Funded Oct 1, 2020

Thank you so much for seeing the value in hands on education. I cannot wait to tell my students that we will be making cheese in our STEM class! The will be able to see how chemistry is part of our everyday lives. I promise to post pictures of our process and meals that the students create with their homemade cheese.”

    Mrs. Nicpan-Brown

  • Let's Engineer Some LEGOs

    Funded Mar 10, 2020

Thank you so much for choosing to support my Lego Spark project! The students were able to start and complete their first project prior to the closing of school because of Covid 19.

I have completed a course to advance my skills with the Lego Spark robots and have prepared lessons for the upcoming school year.

With COVID 19, I was forced to teach the remaining of the school year online. However, I was able to go through the program completely with my daughter. A win win for all!

Again, thank you for your generous donation and belief in my teaching philosophy!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicpan-Brown

  • Edible Decomposers

    Funded May 6, 2020

Thank you for supporting my distance learning Science project! Your donations provided 18 kids mushroom growing kits to use at home. Students picked up their kits at school and then spent 14 days working online with me. We discussed the role of a decomposer, editable decomposers and compared mushrooms to humans.

In the end, ALL 18 homes had the ability to harvest mushrooms and prepare a meal for their family! The challenge was met by all kids and many found that mushrooms can be incorporated into their regular recipes.

This project gave my students the ability to converse around science and create a project that their whole family could participate in!

A learning win win for all!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicpan-Brown

I am committed and passionate about providing elementary students with real-world STEM applications outside the traditional four walls of my classroom. This wouldn't be possible without the support of my building principal, District Superintendent, and the members of our generous community who believe that providing place-based educational STEM experiences are an important part of a students' education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicpan-Brown

My passion is place based learning and getting my students outside the traditional 4 walls of our classroom. My students come from homes with limited exposure to culture, careers, community resources and access to community members and organizations that can provide them with real world applications. I am an enthusiastic Teacher Leader with proven leadership and communication skills. I demonstrate competence in cultivating trusting and productive relationships among students, families, colleagues and administration. I have a strong background in technology integration, STEM and community grant writing.
