  • Making Future Scientists!

    Funded Oct 14, 2022

Thank you again to all my donors! My students and I are so blessed by your donations.

My students have been working hard in our classroom. We have spent our last few weeks being scientists and investigating various topics. They have investigated things that are magnetic and not magnetic and things that sink and float. The students also love using the microscope to look closely at small items. The joy that comes across their faces every time I give them a new item to explore is priceless. We will continue to use the items you have helped to purchase in our classroom in our Science Center throughout the school year.

Your generosity is very appreciated and know that because of your donations you are helping students to gain a love of learning and a passion for science.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicolosi

  • Give the Gift of Music

    Funded Jun 11, 2020

Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity. It warms my heart to know that there are amazing people out there who value education. During these crazy times, many students are confused and do not understand why we are not coming to school everyday. This is why it is so important to have the basic supplies in the classroom to make them forget about what is happening in the world right now and just be fully engrossed in school.

With your donation, I was able to get a CD player, some cds and a flip book to use during morning meeting. These are very basic supplies that my classroom was lacking. Now, every single day in the classroom we dance and sing thought out the entire day. We use the flip book to help remember our months of the year and days of the week. We listen to music while working, eating and even napping.

It sounds basic, but it makes a tremendous difference in the classroom. The students are more attentive and it makes the day smoother. Thank you again for your donation. You have truly impacted a child's life.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicolosi

  • Visual Cues to Get Moving

    Funded Dec 5, 2018

Thank you so much for your support.

To all the people who I know who helped make this project come to life, and to all the anonymous donors. I may not know who you are, but you have impacted my student's lives.

We have been using the gross motor and yoga cards as a way to warm up the little kiddies bodies before we start our class. We are currently learning about Transportation and the cards were a great way to stretch our bodies to be like airplanes and hot air balloons. The students spend so much time in the classroom, that when they get to the gym the gentle stretches help prepare their bodies and minds to start being more active.

The exercise mats have been a wonderful station for the students to play in during free choice time. The students are learning what each mat means (even though they can't read, they can see the pictures). Then they are able to move around the mats performing different exercises independently.

All of the materials I have been given through this project helps to engage all of my students during Gym. Since most do not understand English still, they are able to look at the pictures and still participate. It has made them happy and me happy.

Again, thank you so much for your support and generosity.

    I am forever grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicolosi

  • Ring Toss for Coordination and Focus

    Funded Jul 28, 2018

The students are absolutely loving their new toy! As we began our new school year, many of the students were hesitant and spent a lot of their time crying. The giant ring toss game has helped tremendously. Most of the students are learning how to speak English for the first time, and do not understand what I am usually saying. However, when playing ring toss, they do not need to know any English. I am able to demonstrate how to play the game and they can play independently.

The students loved tossing the giant ring onto the matching cone, and they love it even more when they knock the cone over. Additionally, I am able to get some students to talk by asking them which color they have or would like to use. Then, the joy on their face as they get the ring on the cone and they shout the new phrase "I did it!" I have even heard students use this phrase around the building as I pass classrooms and hear them exclaim when they build in blocks or cut out a picture in art.

This ring toss game has been such a blessing to me and my students. The 150 students who are able to play such a fun game are so happy and will continue to improve their coordination and focus throughout the school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicolosi

  • Moving Bodies Are Learning Bodies

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for all your support. You can not imagine the impact these resources have had on my classroom. My students and I are extremely grateful for your generosity. The children are trying to understand how someone who does not know us would send us such amazing new toys. It is helping to teach them the power of small acts of kindness.

Having the bouncy balls, scooters, yoga mats, soccer balls, a net, hockey sticks and movement dice have given our class new life. They students are extra excited to come into the Gym each day. They absolutely adore the yoga mats with the poses on them. It gives them independence to choose which moves they are working on to strengthen their bodies.

Every resource we receive is precious, but these will always be just a little more special each and everyday.

Thank you so much for this wonderful blessing in our lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicolosi

During gym class, students are engaged in whole group and small group learning. We begin by practicing and developing gross motor skills: walking, galloping, skipping and running. Then, during small group stations, students are actively playing in different groups where they can focus on their throwing, catching, dribbling, balance and teamwork skills. The students need more equipment to use during this time of class. They will strengthen their muscles and build teamwork skills while playing soccer, hockey, riding scooters and bouncing around, then use the yoga resources to help relax and calm their minds and bodies before returning to their classrooms. Having the gym as a safe space to learn about the strength they have, regardless of what language they speak, helps the students exponentially. They can burn energy and then return back to their classrooms ready to learn, because moving bodies are learning bodies!
