Lights, Camera, LEARNING!
Funded Feb 1, 2012Choosing 6 pictures to represent how important having a digital camera was, is almost impossible. This camera, for even only having used it for half of a year, really made things very useful in my class.
The goal of the camera was to show the students at the end of the year what an amazing learning experience this year was. Students created meaningful Science Projects that addressed real life issues of Global Warming. They became mini-scientists!
Students were able to practice their presentation skills and see how each presented, using the camera feature. This was priceless to them as one student said... "I didn't realize I ate my shirt when I spoke."
Parents and students got together for a Mommy and Son, and Father and Daughter dance. I'm sure all these moments will not be soon forgotten as they were all captured with this camera!
Thanks to all!!!”

Funded Jan 30, 2012What can I say... Being able to use these drums to help the students really understand and appreciate the Native American culture was priceless. The students danced several dances to the rhythm drums and they sang with the background beats. Each student was able to understand music notes, and each create their own Native American beat. The finale of this particular activity was a large POW WOW where friends and family were able to come together and see the kids perform. It was attended by, about 100 people.
Thank you so much for making the music lessons so enriching!

Funded Jan 13, 2012It has been two months since I first received my new laptop. When I first opened the box, I did this in front of the kids so they could share my excitement on us being able to open new technology together. This is our first new computer in our class. They couldn't believe it. The kids loved how it looked so different compared to the other computers that we usually see.
Since then, I've been able to really bring the world to the eyes of the first graders. Not does this only help us be able to see animals, video clips on animals as we study science, this has also gone beyond simple science. I have been working on a month long cultural project. Each week, I would study one culture from around the world. As we did this, I was able to show them ancient Chinese pictures, and dances. This has made an instrumental difference in helping them see beyond the book.
I think you all so much for helping these students be excited about learning. They love working on the computer during Independent Time. I have been showing them how to draw on it and research on the computer.
On behalf of my first graders, and all the students this will encourage, thank you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Montañez
