This Donors Choose project has had a great impact on my students. Our school suffered the loss of four staff members this year, and this project helped me create excitement during a very sad time. From the moment I first found out about participating in such an experience for teachers and students, I was motivated to bring about some change for the better. Just opening the boxes shipped to the school in my name brought smiles from the saddest students!

As a special education co-teacher in a general education class, I am responsible to support my students to access the curriculum. I feel their pain as they struggle through reading grade level non-fiction texts, finding appropriate support for a claim they are trying to make or as they struggle to make sense of difficult mathematical concepts. Even partaking in a lesson with a mini dry erase board included some students who otherwise would choose not to participate!!

When I first told my students that I had a my first Donors Choose project funded, I was overwhelmed by their excitement. As some connections are challenging to conceptualize without visual models or large representations, the students realized the materials received through this project supported my endeavors. The large chart paper helped "bring to life" dividing fractions and whole numbers....the plastic transparency sheets provide a tool for students to look closer at the text to find the evidence they needed to support their claims, and the basic supplies like staplers and multiplication pencils support our daily hard work!
