  • Diversity and Ability: Books That Represent Me!

    Funded Mar 17, 2021

Thank you for greatly expanding our classroom library. Having books that not only represent a multitude of cultures but also a diverse array of abilities has been a wonderful addition to our classroom routines.

We received these books during distancing learning and they became a big part of our virtual story time sessions. During the month of April, we had an Abilities Awareness virtual event and were able to use these books in our classroom online as well as share them with other classrooms on campus.

My students love seeing themselves represented in books where characters utilize the same mobility tools, AAC devices, or have the same diagnosis. We learn more about each other when the books we read give our students to opportunity to relate and relay their own commonalities with the characters in these books. Again thank you so much for your generosity!”

  • A Breath of Fresh Air: Safety in a Mod/Severe Classroom

    Funded Mar 20, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity and for giving us the peace of mind of having these air purifiers in our classroom. In Special Education, our student cannot always tolerate or wear a mask. Most do not understand why we have all had to make this change in our lives. With these purifiers at every work station, families and staff have the added peace of mind that the air they breath is clean and safe.

Not only has it helped keep students healthy but it has helped on days where the air quality is less than ideal and we need to keep our windows closed. They are quiet enough to not disturb the students but effective enough to clean the air the students breath throughout the day. It has even helped outside service providers feel more comfortable entering our classroom which means the students receive all the services they need.

Thank you again for your generosity. These air purifiers will help many students for a long time to come.”

  • We Can Learn From a Distance!

    Funded Sep 14, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity! Distance Learning is all the more easily done when teachers have the right materials. With your help, I will be able to so much more for my students! In our room, it is important to have bright and vivid stimuli so that my visually impaired students can see what we are working with. These materials will provide this and will also provide an atmosphere that all students will want to attend to and that helps us when teaching new concepts and skills. I am so excited to use these items during my classroom Zooms and when recording sessions for my students to watch. Again thank you for your generosity and all the work you are doing within our community to make sure teachers have all that they need to make distance learning easier and more meaningful for their students!”

  • Help! We Need New Storage! Help! Not Just Any Storage!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity! Unfortunately the cubbies we had ordered sold out by the time we could accept them but with some help from Donor's Choose we were able to get a cubby locker similar to the one we originally ordered and some other goodies instead. We are so grateful that we will no longer have hang all of our backpacks and coats on the back of our closet doors,. No more drilling new holes and sanding down splintered sections. When our student return the first thing they will see is their new cubby lockers and bins where they can safely store their items away with separation from their peers items. The replacement items we were able to order have increased our classroom library, added to our distance learning bins, and have helped to create a bright and engaging environment in our classroom. Again, thank you for the bottom of our hearts!”

  • Help! We Need New Storage. Help! Not Just Any Storage.

    Funded May 5, 2020

Thank you so much! It was such an effort to get this cubby locker! They are a very high need right now across the country and we are so lucky to have it now. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the chair but we were able to order other items, like much needed paper, to replace it! We are so happy that we will not have to use our splintering closet doors for our backpacks and coats anymore. We are also thankful that, when the students return to school, their items will have separation from their peers items. This will help us maintain a clean and safe environment. Again I want to thank you for your generosity and for helping to better our classroom and the lives of our students. We cannot thank you enough!”

  • Creating an Effective DL Classroom w/Technology

    Funded Jun 12, 2020

Thank you so very much for your generosity! We as teachers are facing an unprecedented time in teaching. I never imagined that one day I would be teaching through a screen from my own home. Everything happened so quickly and we had to adapt just as fast.

I had ordered these materials in order to use them for my summer school session and maybe beyond. Unfortunately, the materials were impacted by a system of delivery that was inundated with shipping requests. I was able to obtain the books, light, and stand the end of the second week of a four-week term. The document camera, however, came at the end of our third week after numerous emails, calls, and being told it was lost for good and so we were not able to utilize it during our summer session.

The silver lining is that it is here and I will now be able to utilize it for this coming school year's distance learning needs. I am excited to put it to use and to create engaging content. It will certainly help me to elevate my digital teaching platform for this coming school year!”

  • We Can Learn at Home! DL Bins for Special Education

    Funded Aug 3, 2020

Thank you for all your generosity! Last year when schools were closed and students were sent home we had no idea that we would not return to our classrooms for the rest of the year. Teachers across the nation scrambled to create a forum for teaching that had never been accomplished before. For Special Education, it was increasingly difficult to ensure that our students were supplied with the same level of accessibility as their general education peers.

Knowing what we know now, I know that my students need many of the same materials at home that they have access to in the classroom in order to continue learning by doing. Having the materials you have so generously helped us obtain through your donations will give me the ability to send a Distance Learning Kit home to each of my students that they can utilize for learning while we continue distance learning and at any point during the year that requires us to return to quarantining.

This will also help us keep materials from crossing environments and help us keep our safety standards above board. Again thank you so much for your generosity and for considering our classroom and seeing that Special Education needs are also importnant in education.”

  • Comfortable Seating Leads to Good Sitting and More Learning!

    Funded Aug 31, 2019

Thank you so much for making this project a reality! Teaching in an Autism specific classroom and variety are so important to meet our students needs on a daily basis and sometimes even minute by minute. Seating is an especially important aspect of this. Our old desks were confining cubby-style which gave limited room for long legs to stretch forward or spread out when seated to work or participate in whole group learning.

With our newly donated desks, students can sit cross-legged, sit lower in their seat and stretch out their legs, and generally feel more free and comfortable while being at their desks. They are lightweight and easier to arrange. Students no longer have the ability to flip their desks during a tough moment in their day and it keeps the classroom in a generally calmer demeanor throughout our day.

We have kept our older desks and have mixed them in with the new seating so that students can choose what type of style they prefer but, as you can see from our photographs, most of our guys have taken a liking to the newer desks and find them more spacious and comfortable.

Again thank you for your generosity and seeing our classroom as one worthy of your support!”

  • Reading: Learn, Imagine, Enjoy!

    Funded Aug 29, 2019

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity towards our classroom. Our classroom library has expanded and students are showing an interest in the books you have helped us add. As you can see in the pictures, we have a few who have really taken to looking at books now that we have topics that attract them to our shelves. Two students have chosen their favorites and read and browse those books almost every morning or free choice opportunity.

Through your donation we were able to add books from the "What If You Had Animal....?" We have been reading the books donated to the series and learning more about zoology and how different parts that animals have help them live their daily lives. We have had a bulletin board up in our hallway and after every book we do a project that includes a little research, worksheet, and then creating their favorite animal part and adding it to their picture. The whole school looks forward to what we add and other teachers have even added the series to their classroom libraries.

Again, thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and generosity. When I came to my classroom in 2017 there were less than 20 books on our shelves and those that we did have were mainly board books. I'm happy that we have books that spark their imaginations and add to their vocabulary.”
