  • Calming Area

    Funded May 9, 2023

Thank you for supporting our calming areas projects. This project brought us 4, 4 foot beam bags that can be used in classrooms. Along with our calming sensory baskets next week teachers will be entered in a raffle where they can select one of these giant bean bags to add to their classroom calming area.

We are so grateful for your support of our students and their social emotional development. Giving students different areas around the classrooms to sit and learn is vital to their brain development and we could not have been able to add these items to our classrooms without you generosity.

Thank you from the entire Dahlia Heights Staff.”

  • Calming Area

    Funded May 12, 2023

With the creation of our calming corners boxes we were able to create 6 sensory bins with pillows, 2 class sets of legos, and one giant pillow and lava lamp. We will raffle them off to classrooms next week and teachers who get selected will get to pick what calming materials they wish to add to their classrooms.

Every teacher on campus will be given a set of calm down corner posters to display and use within their classrooms to support students in their social emotional leaning practices.

We are so grateful for our school and local community supporting this project as we enter this new school year. This project was funded during teacher application week last year and we are so grateful.

Thank you from all of the Dahlia Heights teachers.”

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Students in both 5th and 6th grade have been working on their short films since we received our project materials back in January. Student have created stop motion, news reels, commercials, and more! We are so excited to announce our 1st ever Short Film Festival this June!

Without your financial support we would not be able to create these unique and unforgettable moments for our students.

Students who normally would be quiet or reserved in class are not speaking up and participating more than they have since returning to school after the pandemic.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts from our students and our school community.”

  • Science Experiment Animals

    Funded Aug 31, 2022

We are so grateful to you and your generous donations to our Science Experiment Animals. Students got to engage with both the worms and owl pellets this year during out 5th & 6th grade science rotations.

Students got to learn about worms and guided through our generation genius subscription students were able to be guided by Dr. Jeff and dive deeper into why worms are important and how they impact our daily lives and the ground beneath our feet.

For owl pellets students literally dig in and found bones from smaller mammals that were consumed by the owls. Why was this important? Students go the opportunity to explore the food web with Owls as the Apex predator of their ecosystem. Students loved learning and rebuilding the skeletons of the animals they found, this also aligned to 6th grade anatomy of animals related to their own skeletal systems.

Thank you for helping us bring science to life! Students will carry these experiences throughout their lives and their journey as student scientists.”

Students have been able to engage in a story that brings to life a difficult situation. Students have enjoy this story and are ready to learn more about the classic novels mentioned in the book that were read by they main character. It also helped students to understand how no matter the difficult situations that come up in life, when you have have plan and are willing to forgive yourself for your mistakes you can make changes in your life for the better.

Students loved learning about a different life situation, that they normally wouldn't have learned about and the importance of being honest with ones self.”

  • Flexible Seating in Upper Grade

    Funded Oct 19, 2021

Every single day students walk into my classroom and ask to use every single flexible seating option I have. They love to lounge on the bean bags during silent reading time. They use the folding floor seats to sit closer on the floor for lessons and their backs are supported. In their seats they have seat cushions, wobble chairs, foam box, kick bands and wobble feet. Students will rotate the flex seating and every week each of my 31 students gets the opportunity to sit on a seat that is not a regular student chair.

When students first found out we were getting multiple seating options they were so excited then when they walked in and saw all of the possibilities they were so excited beyond their initial reactions they love using these different types of seats every day.

Next steps, to get even more seating options for students to be able to have even more of a diverse learning environment.”

  • Esperanza Rising Class & Text Set

    Funded Sep 28, 2020

Thank you for your contribution to our classroom set of Esperanza Rising. This year we were able to read 2 novels together as a class, Esperanza Rising was the overall class favorite.

We began reading this book during distance learning, it helped students to learn to love books with a multicultural voice. Students expressed how much they learned from Esperanza and what it must have been like for her during the great depression.

Once we returned to school in the hybrid model students continued to enjoy her story and continued conversations about migrant workers and the difficulties immigrants faced then and now.

Thank you for contributing to our classroom novel study.”

  • Time for Kids

    Funded Nov 4, 2018

Thank you to each and every one of our donors. Our class has started using our time for kids as current events homework for daily use. Students critically read, think and investigate what each article is about in order to apply it to our daily homework. More recently my student s have been using the time for kids issues to relate to Real world issues that are near and dear to their hearts for example a more recent issue was about the broader wall. Being that 97% of my students are of Latinx decent they found it to be very interesting and we're able to relate it to our current ela unit on why laws change over time.

The impact of the addition of time for kids in our classroom has opened up conversations and made deeper connections with my students than any other student magazine I've incorporated in my classroom before the benefits outweighs the cost and I am grateful to all who have donated and shown my students that there are people in the world that care if they understand their world or not. Thank you for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Markor
