I can't thank you enough for your generosity! I am extremely grateful, and my students are going to be very excited about this addition to our classroom. The carpet provides a comfortable meeting area for our kiddos to meet, learn and share ideas. Allowing students a choice to work independently or in partnerships in this space encourages students to take charge of their learning. It's an important part of fostering a flexible seating community. We are ready to "roll out" the carpet this school year!

  • Young Readers Are Hooked on Realistic Fiction!

    Funded Jan 31, 2022

Your donations helped fund an entire class set of books and another 7 books for a book club! With your help I was able to combat some challenges our young readers faced by affording them the opportunity to have a wide selection of books with diverse and engaging characters to enjoy in class.

These high-interest stories helped keep my readers motivated and engaged. Thanks to all of you, my students were able to follow Dyamonde Daniel and her friends along

to learn what happened with their favorite characters. We used these books to extend our realistic fiction unit. The students were be able to make meaningful connections to characters with similar family dynamics who live in nearby Washington Heights. They practiced important reading skills and worked in partnerships.

Since the students were already familiar with the series, they were excited and engaged when they used these items. The materials supported our literacy unit, partnership work and reading stamina. Our students were thrilled to be learning and were engaged using all the titles we received.

Your funding of this project supported this learning community and will continue to support future 2nd grade communities as well.

Thank you for your support of my SUPER 2nd Graders!”

  • The Struggle Is Real-Remote Classes Need Stuff Too!

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

Your donations helped fund our remote learning project and made all the difference in our student's learning lives and social emotional well being while learning through a global pandemic. As a result, all of my students showed significant progress in all subject areas. Exactly 100% of students showed progress in their reading levels! More importantly, their social emotional needs were addressed throughout the year.

With the resources we received, our remote learners enjoyed high interest books and engaging/interactive learning opportunities. Funding gave them access to materials, resources and quality instruction that they would have had in the typical classroom! For example, I purchased digital resources with the teachers pay teachers gift card, engaging read-alouds and manipulatives such as magnetic number bonds, ten frames, base-ten blocks and fraction models, all which supported LIVE remote lessons.

The students were excited and engaged when they used these items. The materials supported our remote learning community in providing easy, engaging and streamlined VIRTUAL learning in MATH, literacy and social emotional content areas. .The students truly benefited and lit up when using all the social emotional literature. The teacher read-alouds and lessons supporting their SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING was critical to their success as remote students. This helped provide guidance and support to these students who needed more SEL and opportunities to share feelings about how to navigate remote learning in the absence of the physical classroom and their peers. Our students were thrilled to be learning and were engaged using all the materials we received.

Your funding of this project supported this remote learning community and will continue to support the in person learning community as well. We continue to use all these resources and social emotional read-alouds during in person learning continually addressing not only the children's academics but their emotional needs as well.

Thank you for your support of our SUPER 2nd Graders!”

I understand from experience, our remote learners need and deserve more....much more. My goal is to provide my students with robust, engaging and effective learning opportunities. How do these remote students gain access to materials, resources and quality instruction that they would have in the classroom? We need remote technology including a webcam and wireless drawing tablet, digital resources from Teachers Pay Teachers and manipulatives such as magnetic number bonds, ten frames, base-ten blocks and fraction models, to model LIVE lessons. These materials will help our remote learning community be successful with VIRTUAL learning, MATH, literacy and virtual classroom management. These resources will expand the children's learning practice and opportunities by supporting their access to real time lessons within a true virtual classroom. Teaching remotely without appropriate resources was frustrating for students, teachers and parents. Our students depend on visual models and examples for comprehension. The items will help support engaging live lessons and guided support from the teacher. Also, the Wacom tool serves a great resource for writing and modeling math problems, directions, and literacy. The webcam will help the students view clear live teaching and allow me to be a bit more mobile during video conferencing. The webcam allows for more flexibility throughout the at home teaching area between charts, posters and serves as an overall clear and more audible lesson presentation. Together, with my document camera and manipulatives, the students will have the visual models to understand and use strategies they are taught. Teachers Pay Teachers helped our learning community during the pandemic. The students enjoyed the ability to interact with digital resources in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. A gift card from TPT will allow me to purchase more interactive and fun products for our kiddos to practice the skills being taught in the virtual classroom. Thank you for your support of our SUPER 2nd Graders!
