  • Learning Through Picture Books

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of this beautiful set of children's books. They each tell a unique story and teach a particular lesson to my students.

Your contribution means the world to us and will have a lasting impact on young minds. These books not only foster a love for reading but also impart valuable life lessons and encourage my students to be creative when solving problems.

The students especially loved the delightful story "The Most Magnificent Thing," where many made a connection with the main character. It is often easy to quit in the face of challenges and failure, just like the main character initially did. The book teaches my students the value of mistakes and inspires them to persevere. "Rulers of the Playground" is another favorite one. It helps the students learn how to interact with other children during playground time. It also helps develop empathy and understanding towards their peers.

Once again, thank you for your kindness! The class and I are immensely grateful for your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Liu

  • With One Set of Books, We Can Become Global Citizens!

    Funded May 4, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations! These wonderful books provided opportunities for my students to become more aware of the world around them. The Hugging Tree gives our class an opportunity to discuss resilience, which I find especially important for my students to understand in light of the past year. Through A Drop Around the World, my students learn how water in everchanging forms works its wonders on Earth. The Girl With a Mind for Math, Shark Lady, Iggy Peck, Architect, Rosie Revere, Engineer, and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind encouraged them to cultivate their varied interests. During our reading time, my students engaged in conversations from these books that have inspired them. They loved sharing their dreams of pursuing careers in education, engineering, and science in the future.

Thus, thank you for your support in renovating our classroom library with this collection of new books. They will also benefit the coming classes in the future years. We are tremendously grateful for your contributions to our classroom.”

  • Engage a Community of Learners in Distance Learning

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation to our class project! Because of your contribution, I've been able to reach my students more effectively. Teaching and remote learning have been immensely challenging for all of us, but with the use of proper software and the iPad, I've been able to share useful, online resources from a variety of subjects with my students.

Since receiving the iPad and the stylus pen, I've installed Notability and downloaded our passages as PDF files in preparation for our reading lessons. During these discussions, students used their reading comprehension skills and were better engaged. Because I mirrored the iPad screen and shared it in our Zoom meeting, they loved seeing their ideas and thoughts being recorded directly onto these files. We highlighted the main ideas and key details together. During the math lessons, we also corrected mistakes from students' work. This helped them clear up misunderstandings and gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. In addition, using the iPad has created many opportunities for my English learners to practice their speaking skills as they shared their opinions in our small group meetings.

In the last three months, this iPad not only made it easier for me to reach my students during remote learning but also improve my student's ability to become more actively engaged and be proud of the work they produce. My students and I have shared valuable time together virtually. Even as we are returning back to the classroom, this iPad can help take pictures and videos to create other multimedia projects. We are so grateful, and we're excited to see how the iPad will continue to enhance their learning.”

  • Avid Readers Need a Larger Leveled Library

    Funded Feb 2, 2012

Thank you for your generous donations! Because the books are well organized based on the genres, now my students have a much easier time finding the books they are interested in. During the school year, we read an excerpt from the book, Because of Winn-Dixie, in our literature textbook. My students enjoyed the story immediately, wishing they could read the entire narrative. Even though we could only spend a short amount of time at the end of the school year reading the book, my students were able to better understand the main character, Opal, and sympathize to her longing for a friend.

All in all, thank you for your support in renovating our classroom library. Not only did the bookshelf and the book set serve this group of students, but they will also benefit the coming classes in the future years. We are tremendously grateful for your contributions to our classroom. ”

  • Netbooks for All

    Funded Dec 30, 2011

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our class! Because of your donation, my students are able to use this computer, along with one other computer in the classroom to finish many of their projects. Since some students don't have the access to the Internet or computers at home, they are excited to use this computer to browse the web, conduct their researches on the arctic animals, and eventually type up their reports. It also becomes really helpful when students need to find additional information on their mission brochure project. In this way, students can proudly present what they have learned over the last few months to their parents during Open House.

During the school year, this computer not only helps my students complete numerous projects. It also enables them to learn skills ranging from basic computer techniques to researching, evaluating, and comprehending the information on various topics in different subject areas. Your donations provide a great opportunity that helps equip them to be ready for the future. We are so grateful! ”

Although we are a magnet school, 53% of our students are from low-socioeconomic homes. Parents send their children to our school for a better opportunity. Although we are a magnet school, we receive virtually no additional funding beyond that received by any other public school. Although we are a magnet school, only 17% of our students are in the Gifted and Talented program, yet our school still has high test scores. Our students are eager to learn and take pride in their work. I also have 8 English learners.
