Aspiring Artists Need a Ceramics Program
Funded Apr 18, 2023We are so thankful for your generous donations to start our journey learning with clay! We were able to purchase a few different colors of clay and lots of glazes for our projects among many other items for the kiln. We started working with our materials last spring and have been busy since!
Pre-K has been able to make hearts and ornaments. Kindergarten has made ornaments and cereal bowls with adorable tiny spoons! 1st grade formed some super cute lady bugs. 2nd grade ended last school year molding under-the-sea creatures as 1st graders and this year some silly and some scary pinch-pot monsters. 3rd grade crafted some very cool lizards while 4th grade created patterned turtles! 5th grade is almost ready for their tic-tac-toe tournament with all themes from baseball to cats to ancient Roman ruins in the form of a ceramic game board and pieces. 6th grade is about to start their clay journey as 7th grade is finishing their slab mugs and 8th grade continues to work on their independent clay projects including vases, pots with lids, and even figurines!
Again, we are so very thankful for all your help and we can't wait until our classroom kiln is hooked up so we can fire our hundreds of wonderful pieces. Students look forward to showing what they have learned by displaying their work in future art shows and beyond. Your donations are invaluable to our young artists' 3D art education. We look forward to continue growing our ceramics program in the years to come!”

WANTED: Big Rug for Little Artists
Funded Dec 11, 2019The students and staff at my school were in awe when they saw the big colorful rug on the floor right in my entryway. It really transformed our learning space in such a positive way! It matches the feel of what an art room should be - bright, colorful, inviting, and inspirational as it reminds us of the famous Kandinsky painting - Color Study: Squares with Concentric Circles.
Students in grades Pre-K through 4 are utilizing this rug as a listening, learning, and working area. They know that when they first come into class, they are expected to sit on one of the colorful circles and stay in their circle spot for the 5-15 minutes it takes for me to give them directions and do my demonstration. Then I can call them over a few time to get supplies and go sit at their table seat. Some students will choose to draw with a sturdy drafting board on the rug at work time, and when younger students are finished with their work they know that they can sit on the carpet and build with blocks, or draw on whiteboards, among many other activities. Even middle schoolers use it to relax or stretch when they need a body break!
In the future, I would like to use the rug to play art games for students to learn new material or reinforce concepts, for example each circle could have a label with an artist, element or principle of design, or stand alone as just a color and students will have a task as a group to use that mapped out space to learn about art in a memory game, trivia, or something similarly engaging!
We can't express how thankful we are that this made its way into our space from your generous donations. It has really changed the way my students listen, focus, and learn.”

Mrs. Lindemann
