Create New Worlds with Bloxels

After a slight delay in shipping, we are so excited to have our Bloxels kits here at Sandburg! I will be sharing these kits with our new MakerSpace connected to our school library, but for now, they're a great addition to our 8th grade pixel graphic design and animation unit. The kits can be used for brainstorming and planning designs, but also as an extension and enrichment activity for students looking to go beyond the basic concepts.
Students are very curious when they first see the kits and immediately want to know more! Student designs are currently trending towards emoji graphics and pop culture references. This of course is always evolving.
Of course, this is just the beginning ideas of what we can do with these new kits, and I am excited to see what new and innovative ideas our students will come up with! They're always surprising and impressing me with their creativity! One of the things we're doing with our pixel graphic designs is printing out our images and creating tiny buttons to accessorize our clothing and book bags. It's enlightening to be able to see and experience the connections across the physical and digital worlds when we're creating!”

In Creative Technology class, we are always dreaming up new ways to create, tell stories, build, collaborate, and invent using technology. We need six Bloxels building sets to create their own digital interactive stories and games that will help them problem-solve and use technology in new and creative ways. Bloxels is a new tech tool that we have not yet gotten the chance to use in class. Each Bloxels kit will allow students to create their own interactive worlds in a game-like storytelling format. From character development and settings to story elements, Bloxels will allow us to creatively control all aspects of storytelling through customization. Once students create their own stories, they can have classmates "play" their Bloxels game, thus giving students an authentic audience of peers with which to share their work and receive feedback. Bloxels would be an awesome way to enhance and enrich our existing curriculum by giving students a new tool for creation.
