My school is located in a very socioeconomically underprivileged area. My 7th graders have very low reading levels, some as low as 1st grade. Many of their parents have very little education and struggle to help their children. Getting my students to read anything is always a challenge as it is very difficult for them. My students lack of literacy holds them back from achieving not only in my English class, but in all their subjects. Education is the key to my students making a better life for themselves and in order to achieve this they must improve their literacy.
