Squeaky Clean Science
Funded Oct 1, 2021Thank you for generous donations to my classroom. I was thrilled to announce to the class when the project was funded and the items we were receiving, thanks to you! With the items purchased from the project my students and I have been able to properly clean desks in between classes, allow my students to wash their hands as needed and provide them with new face masks when their old ones break.
I try to make my classroom a safe space for my students where they feel protected and at home. Having cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer and soaps at the sink give them ownership of their space. They love wiping down the tables, sanitizing their hands when they feel they need to and most importantly washing their hands when needed. My students know they can come to my class for a new mask if theirs' breaks or they lose it. Having two different sizes has been so beneficial because so many of them are in-between adult and kids sizes.
I still have a healthy supply of materials for my second semester students and still gather and stowaway materials that I find on sale. Should I run out or get low on materials, I plan on making a new project to collect more cleaning supplies and hopefully have enough hand sanitizer and masks for future classes.
Thank you again for your generous donations and caring for my class and students. You will never know how much it means to us.”

Funded Jun 9, 2021Thank you so much for helping me create fun and engaging ways to teach my students financial literacy skills. This is a topic my students over the years have always asked about and after the past two years of virtual teaching, I decided we should focus on some real world skills. This project was so well received by other teachers on my team that we are planning lessons and 30 minute periods twice a week around this topic.
My students have never played PayDay before and were excited to just sit and play a game during their WIN period. When I told them the idea behind the game they were excited because many of them do not know the ins and outs of money. They want to make good financial decisions when they are older and by giving them some background knowledge and planting seeds now, they will be better equipped for the future.
I plan on creating more fun and engaging lessons/scenarios around the game and seeing how students handle those situations. My goal is to have students create their own situations and seeing how their fellow classmates plan for their futures! Thank you again for this amazing gift!”

Funded Dec 18, 2019Thank you so much for your generosity during the Holiday Season. I cannot wait to tell my students about all of these prizes for the end of the year! All prizes usually come from my own pocket and now I'm able to supply my students with these amazing rewards they have been working on since September!”

Listen Up: Student Headphones
Funded Dec 17, 2019Thank you so much for your generosity! I cannot wait to share this amazing news with my students. We have so many opportunities in the 2nd half of the year to use the headphones in the project and I know my students are going to be so excited about having a set to call their own. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.”

Color My World: Color Printer for Science
Funded Aug 6, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donation and believing in my students and our project. Students have already had the opportunity to use the printer for a comic strip assignment. They were able to print images in color and create a comic strip explaining proper lab safety procedures. This allowed them to be creative and to have beautiful images displayed in their comic boxes.
I have been able to print labs and classroom activities in color. I've noticed there is more student engagement and the students are more eager to work with the manipulatives. The students are so excited to see the images and labs in full color, whereas before we had to use our imagination.
In the future we plan to use the color printer for presentations where we discuss alternative fuel sources. The students will create portfolios and they can now print full images, graphs and other details they would have had to complete with coloring and drawing.
Thank you again for believing in this project and giving my students the opportunity to work in color!”

Funded Jun 10, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donations and for caring for the well-being of my students. My students were so excited to receive the donations and have materials and supplies on hand for cleaning after activities.
The hand sanitizer has been a hit with the students because they love the different scents and keeping their hands clean between messy labs. The students and I also enjoy our classroom broom and we often "fight" over who is going to clean up the mess. Having the supplies available to clean has given my students a new sense of ownership of their classroom and they take pride in how clean it is.
As we move into the colder months I know that the cleaning supplies are going to come in handy. I've already noticed a decrease in the amount of absences this year and I think we can attribute that to the cleanliness of the classroom. Thank you again for your generous donation and believing in my students and project.”

Funded Dec 11, 2018Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom. Many of my ESL students (English as a Second Language) come from Spanish speaking countries. The adjustment for many of them is hard and I try my best to make them feel welcome in every possible way. I spend countless hours in work and at home trying to find resources for these students to make sure the curriculum and content is accessible to them. It is my philosophy that every child can learn, it is up to me to find the best way for them to learn.
Up till this point I have been scouring the internet and purchasing many resources with my own money. Because of this project I now have a classroom library of not only Science content, but books that my English speaking students are reading or are interested in. I've already been able to a few of the books for one of my students! The way his attitude has changed in coming to my class has made all the difference. He's more confident that he can gather the necessary information and perform the same tasks as his peers.
This project has truly changed my classroom for all of my students. Many of the students will approach my ESL student and show him "cool pictures" and ask him about it. Some of my other students will translate for him and this is how they have their conversations. This one project has open up my students' eyes to the power of inclusivity. They will often discuss how they can help my ESL student with his work or ways to communicate their findings.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for what you have done.”

Teachers Need Back to School Supplies Too!
Funded Sep 6, 2018Words cannot express how thankful I am for your donations. My students have been able to work on class projects without hesitation. It was like Christmas morning in my class when the boxes and supplies arrived. Students were excited, but also warmed that people outside of their community and school felt so strongly about them, that they donated money to our class. We have used some of the materials to visualize and build Pangaea as we discover Continental Drift Theory and plate tectonics. Students share their ideas and questions by using the chart paper and post-it notes.
This donation and the completion of this project started a chain reaction from my students. We have had a few donation days where the student body selects an organization they want to donate to for a dress down day. Students have been bringing in more money than needed to donate because they now think that when you have something, you should share it.
I could thank you for so many other countless ways you have affected my class, but most importantly, you've given me peace of mind. I know there are supplies and materials in my class that I don't have to purchase on my own. I tell my students to always come to me if they need supplies for projects which is something I spend my own money on. Because of your help I am able to give my students what they need to be successful in my class.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Neukom Family Foundation and one other donor.Mindfulness Matters!
Funded Aug 17, 2018My students and I were thrilled to receive our projects for the "Mindfulness Matters" Project. I was able to open the box in front of one of my classes and they applauded as I showed them poster after poster. Within minutes I was scrambling around the room to spread the positivity in my class.
I was able to explain to my students the reason I submitted for this project. I explained that words have the power to guide us in a positive direction or cut us down. In a time where negativity is spread so quickly, I wanted them to have a positive place to learn. I hung different posters that I felt should be around throughout the year and I still have so many that I can use for a daily lesson.
My students were so inquisitive and began reading some of the quotes and even wrote some down that they thought were powerful. There were a few quotes that my students questioned, but it only opened up the dialect for what they thought the author of the quote meant and how the students interpreted it.
I told my students that quotes are an amazing tool to have in their arsenal. I was able to share with them some of my personal favorite quotes and it only inspired them to go home and try to find a quote that truly spoke to them. My students want to bring in their quotes so we can discuss further the true meaning of the words.
I plan to post different posters with quotes weekly and we can discuss as a class how the quote relates to us or makes us feel. Thank you for the opportunity to have this open dialect with my students and give them not only ownership of something in my class, but a sense of pride when they make a connection with the quotes.”

Mrs. Komal
