  • iPad for Common Core

    Funded Jan 28, 2014

This has been a great addition to our classroom. The students are thrilled to have access to fun, educational games. For some, this is their only opportunity to access the class blog. This access, has made them feel more included.

My students have also used the iPad to answer questions they have; such as, "What is the distance across the USA in kilometers?" or "Can earthquakes be predicted?" Now they have the opportunity to get extra help in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies through games. They are excited to learn.

Having this iPad has given our class more opportunities for practice and access to information that we would otherwise not have.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Harris

  • No More Bullies!

    Funded Dec 23, 2013

The GATE students were extremely excited to have the opportunity to create their own video against bullying. Having the iPad gave them the opportunity to have hands on experience with the process.

This group of students wrote the storyline using the iPad. They then used the iPad to direct and record teachers acting out the parts the students assigned them. Finally, in small groups, they were able to organize, edit, and produce a video.

This video will be shown to the whole student body at an "anti-bullying" assembly. In the past, GATE students have been able to write videos such as this, but have not had the resources to film, edit, and produce them on their own. This has been a great learning experience for them and has given them a sense of pride in their accomplishment. These students are very excited that they have more videos in the works for the upcoming school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Harris

I work with 4th grade students. Since technology is such a huge part of our lives, I integrate it into my classroom. I work with my students on how to be responsible on social media and communicate effectively through our class blog. They learn through a variety of educational opportunities online that they wouldn't otherwise have access too. I feel it's important to teach students to be responsible, respectful, and safe online.
