  • Reinspire a Love of Reading!

    Funded Apr 22, 2024

I want to to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to support the purchase of novels for my classroom. Your contribution is making a profound difference in the lives of my students.

Thanks to your support, I will be able to provide high-quality literature to reach 150 students this year. Many of my students come from families with limited resources, and having access to these books is an invaluable gift. Your donation ensures that every student in my class will have the opportunity to explore new worlds, expand their imaginations, and develop a lifelong love for reading.

The novels will not only enrich my curriculum but also ensure that students who may not have the means to purchase books themselves are still able to enjoy and benefit from them. Your generosity helps bridge the gap and provides equitable access to essential learning materials.

I are excited to see the impact these books will have on my students' educational journey and their personal growth. Your commitment to supporting education and fostering a love for reading is truly inspiring. Thank you once again for your kindness and for making a positive difference in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hilton

  • Novel Needs

    Funded Oct 19, 2021

Thank you so very much for your generosity! The funding of this grant enabled students access to novels that they otherwise would not have. The students thoroughly enjoyed reading the novel, particularly given the recent publication of the text.

Several students, who are not avid readers, completely devoured this novel! They read the entire book over the course of a day or two. Without your support, these students would not have had an opportunity to read this novel nor would they have rekindled their love of reading.

Because of donors like you, I am able to reach more and more students. They are able to have equitable access to materials and reacquaint themselves with their love of reading. Thank you for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hilton

  • Revive Reading!

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

My students and I are so very grateful for the resources purchased for my classroom. The books purchased for my classroom have given my students access to modern texts that are highly engaging, challenging, and rewarding.

Having access to texts is important to students, particularly those students who cannot afford to purchase those texts themselves. It is extremely gratifying to hold a book in your hands, turn the pages to a certain passage, and not have to squint at a screen (or read an antiquated text). Since reading is not as popular among students and it is difficult to get them to read, modern and engaging texts are critical for building life-long readers.

Thank you for making this reality possible for my students. We are so very humbled and grateful for your generosity.”

    Mrs. Hilton

  • Social Awareness From A Distance

    Funded Oct 7, 2020

I can't tell you how much it has meant to my students and me to have these new resources this year. We have been learning remotely, and it has been challenging and exhausting for all of us. The new resources helped spark life back into our classroom. Students engaged with the reading, and they were very active in discussing the novel as well.

Too, I have been fortunate enough to pair this novel with an assignment and several activities in an AP environmental science course, which has afforded cross curricular connections. Students' lives have been enriched through reading this novel. Thanks for making a difference in their lives!”

  • #TeachLivingPoets in AP Lit

    Funded Feb 25, 2020

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! My students and I are so greatly blessed by your generosity and will adore sharing this study of poetry with you. Introducing minority authors, particularly poets, will broaden the horizons of my students. I am very grateful and EXCITED to have access to these materials!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hilton

  • Take a Shot

    Funded Feb 19, 2019

As the school year has quickly drawn to an end, we have thoroughly enjoyed the funding of this grant. It has helped us take quality photos that we have been able to publish in our online news paper.

The Journalism classes learned how to operate the cameras from a local professional who came in and explained exactly how to use the cameras, their processes, and their functions. As a result, students produced their own photography portfolios. From there, they were able to begin taking beautiful pictures at events and around campus, which were produced in our newspaper.

Because of this grant, we are better able to serve our school and local community with quality photographs to accompany the articles. Thank you for making this happen!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hilton

  • Don't Stop The Reading!

    Funded Nov 24, 2018

Thank you for funding this project for literacy! Your generous donations made it possible for over 150 students to have access to a novel they otherwise would not be able to afford.

We spent two weeks reading, studying, and discussing the novel. The content, the impact of interracial relationships in the Deep South, sparked many debates and lead to a new understanding of the challenges of marginalization that interracial children face. Students are now more aware of and sensitive to these groups of people. Without having this resource, it is likely this new compassion would have developed.

Thank you for helping me change my students' perspectives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hilton

  • Book It!

    Funded May 3, 2017

Thank you for generously supporting my classroom and my students through the purchasing of the set of novels for my course. The grant funded enough novels to complete my collection. As a result, I now have enough books for each student in my class to borrow a copy to read at home.

Previously, students were having to purchase a novel on their own if they could afford to or read only in class. Some were even asking to photocopy pages of the book so they could read at home! Because of the grant, this is no longer an issue! As the pictures show, students are engaged, and they are inspired! One student even decided to show her interpretation of the novel by painting a ceiling tile in my classroom, paying homage to the novel.

Thank you so much for continuously supporting literacy! We are so very appreciative!”

  • Novels Needed!

    Funded Mar 29, 2016

Thank you for funding this grant! Because of your generosity, the grant provided texts for all of my students. Many of them were not able to purchase the novel, and they were sharing books with their classmates. Having their own copies of the novel allowed many of them to read ahead and re-read chapters that were appealing to them.

This classic novel is not limited to the students just this past year. I will be using this novel again this coming school year, but there is a catch! My enrollment has doubled for this coming year. As intimidating as this may be, I know that having resources for less fortunate students is one of the main reasons I am seeing an increase in enrollment.

Having the support of my classroom from the community, both physical and virtual, is vital to the success of my students. The funding of this project will continue to inspire reading and challenge thinking. I am so very grateful for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hilton

Classes at our school are very large; 30 to 34 students packed into classrooms built in the early 1960s. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and socioeconomic regions. Each day, I am unsure if ALL students will have access to the internet via a mobile device or if they will need money for lunch. Some classes are filled with students who have every technological device available while others do not have access to the internet outside of school. Our school, the largest in our district, does well to provide technological devices with the very small budget allotted by our state. However, often there is very little left for each classroom teacher to have his/her own, resulting in the sharing of technology. The end result is overused devices that need repairs that are not part of the budget. Many of my colleagues and I purchase as much as we can for our own classrooms, but these funds are often not enough.
