We are going to have a "Maritime" in the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. The materials I have requested will allow students to be organized and assist in our commitment to practice social distancing inside the classroom. My hope is that these materials, combined with items I have already purchased, will allow each student to have access to personal supplies at their desk minimizing the need to move around the classroom using communal supply stations. The chair organizer will hold student books and notebooks instead of storing them in a common storage unit in the classroom. This reduces the chance that students might touch other student books throughout the day. My students have a MAGIC (Managing Assignments, Goals, Information & Communication) binder to teach help them stay organized at school, at home and the transition. This binder contains their school agenda, a homework folder, zippered pencil pouch, notebook paper and plastic sleeves to hold their math fact charts, weekly high frequency word lists, and weekly vocabulary cards. We have an interactive notebook for every subject. This teaches the students note taking skills, organization, referencing skills and the importance of neat handwriting. The 5 subject notebooks will allow us to combine subjects so we don't have numerous 1 subject notebooks to store. I will use duct tape to reinforce the spiral binding to the front and back covers to make sure they last the entire school year. I have already purchased a small plastic box to make each student a glue sponge. The sponges are needed to put in the box with glue so students do not have to share glue sticks or bottles of glue.
