  • A Gift Card to Teachers Pay Teachers...the Gift of Time!

    Funded Dec 23, 2021

Thank you once again for your donations to my Donors Choose project. This project was for two $100 gift cards to Teachers Pay Teachers. This is a website created by teachers, for teachers, with materials that can be used in the classroom.

I will have opportunities to access materials that I do not have to use my own time to create. So far I have supplemented my Black history month unit with materials on Kamala Harris and John Lewis. I have also purchased materials that will support my new upcoming read alouds for the book "Stay" by Bobbie Pyron and "Bob" by Wendy Mass and Rebecca Stead.

Many more resources will be accessbile into the future with the use of these gift cards. So thank you for the gift of time and and amazing materials for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heather Stewart

  • A Brand New Read Aloud: "The Lion of Mars"!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

I think sharing books with students is one of the best things about being a teacher. I personally love reading. And if I can simply demonstrate and model that love of reading with my students, then nothing could bring me more joy.

Creating life long readers is so important to me. And I feel it is my responsibility to read aloud books that I believe are going to help to make that happen.

So I truly thank YOU. The donors who made this new read aloud book possible. You are putting a book into the hands of every student in my classroom. Which is amazing! And essential for moving reading levels forward. From the bottom of my heart- thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤️”

    Mrs. Heather Stewart

  • A Gift Card to Teachers Pay Teachers Website

    Funded May 18, 2021

This school year, by far, has been the most challenging and difficult year in my teaching career.

I startled the school year teaching virtually, then transitioned to hybrid, and finally returned to full day in-person instruction wearing masks while physical distancing.

My class roster changed at least that many times with each transition. Multiple students were absent for 14 days due to a quarantine during hybrid or in person, which required additional support.

Throughout all the challenges and struggles, the one singular constant was the students. They never changed. They wanted to be in school, whatever that happened to be, within that moment. Their resiliency has been paramount.

And the support of donors who when asked, came to support without hesitation. Your donation simplified my job and truly impacted student learning. I'm so grateful. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heather Stewart

  • The Gift of Time: Teachers Pay Teachers Website

    Funded May 3, 2021

Once again, I am humbled. Humbled by the generosity of others.

This school year has easily been the most difficult of my teaching career. It is a year unlike no other. Starting virtually, pivoting to hybrid, and pivoting once more to fully in-person. With each change came new challenges.

What has made it so much easier- products that are ready to go for all 3 types of instruction that we have been in this year for purchase on the Teachers Pay Teachers website. Being able to find resources that are prepped and ready for use in Google Classroom. In all subject areas- this was the game changer.

So thank you. Thank you for once again gifting me with time. And gifting my students with quality resources that really made a difference during this historic year.

You are all quite simply amazing- Heather”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heather Stewart

  • Virtual Learning...with a Little Help from Teachers Pay Teachers

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

I cannot begin to tell you what an incredible blessing it has been to have $300 in gift cards to Teachers Pay Teachers.

I am using the gift cards as I need materials for my students during virtual learning. To not have to take time either create the materials myself OR to have to fund the purchases myself...both are truly gifts you could not possibly imagine.

My students are able to access assignments and projects that are meant to be digital. That are of quality. That relate to what we are doing or will be doing.

Some materials purchased so far include: a project based learning activity to plan a winter vacation, daily Google Slides used daily during whole class morning meetings, labels for student book boxes, digital text evidence passages for the entire school year, digital winter centers in Google Slides with videos and assignments already embedded, a virtual field trip to Yellowstone National Park, digital multiplication fact practice centers, Black history month biography research projects, math place value google slides, digital reading comprehension morning work for the entire year, animal report pennant banners for an upcoming animal research project, New Year's 2021 digital activities, a Winter Break writing project, and Inauguration Day activities.

And...the best news is...this is only the beginning. There are still gift card funds I will be able to access in the year to come.

So once more, thank you so much for gifting my students quality digital resources for use while learning at home (and eventually while at school as well!) and for myself- the gift of time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heather Stewart

  • Extra! Extra! Read All About It...with Scholastic News!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

My 3rd grade students and I have started the school year virtually. I apologize that I have no thank you photos of or with them, but at this time, it just isn't a possibility. We are together every day, just through a computer screen.

Thankfully, Scholastic News provides an amazing digital resource for both me and my students. I love the articles on current events along with the coordinating videos.

I assign the issues weekly within Google Classroom. Then my students take coordinating assessments that I am able to assign with ease also in Google Classroom. It is one of the only resources right now that I am not having to create.

Thank you so much to all the donors who provided this amazing resource for my students.”

  • "The One and Only Bob" by Katherine Applegate

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

One of the very best things about being a teacher of 3rd graders is getting to read aloud to them.

I am constantly on the hunt for new books to share with them.

I found Katherine Applegate's Newbery Award winning "The One and Only Ivan" the year it was released. I've been using it as a read aloud every year since then.

When I discovered a sequel was being released, "The One and Only Bob," I knew my class needed to have a set of this book. Some to use in small group reading and a few for students to choose to read independently.

I know they will love this book as much as I did. I cannot wait to return to my classroom and share it with them.

Thank you for providing my students with the gift of story.”

  • SHINE! with a Glowing Book by J.J. and Chris Grabenstein

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

    Chris and J.J.,

The excitement for my 3rd graders upon receiving a class set of your book "Shine!" can only be described as electric!

We watched a video you both had created on YouTube about being authors, working together, and how writing "Shine!" came to be. This video was so amazing by the way! lt was the perfect way to introduce them to you both.

Then we opened the box and the class was immediately in love with your book before even reading it! The cover particularly was their favorite.

I cannot thank you enough for putting this book, your book, in the hands of my students. I am so incredibly grateful for this gift.

Read aloud is my most favorite part of the day. And your book is something so very special. I cannot wait to share it this year and in years to come. Thank you so so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heather Stewart

  • Flexible Seating for Amazing Students--Wobble Stools

    Funded Feb 1, 2020

Today my students and I opened up the 6 boxes which held our new flexible seating wobble stools!

We found these 6 new stools to be very sturdy, a little taller than our current stools and they still provide just the right amount of wiggle!

My students and I are so excited to add these seating options to our classroom. Personally, I am excited to continue to provide my students the opportunity to have appropriate movement during seat time in place of the traditional classroom chairs.

I am always amazed to have such generous donors who continue to help make my classroom the amazing place it is for students to spend their day in. For not just this year, but for years to come!

Thank you thank you THANK YOU! :)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heather Stewart

  • Native Americans: Learning about the Past to Shape our Future

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Learning about Native Americans is social studies focus that officially begins at the 3rd grade level. Students examine Native American cultures from the past and in the present and the impact they have had in shaping our country.

Having taught Native Americans for the first time last year, I loved learning right along with my students. I struggled with a lack of resources, which is what led to this Donors Choose project. There are so many books that lend themselves through story to opening understanding and enriching learning.

I know that the variety of books I selected will be so helpful in guiding, supplementing and improving my instruction for my students this year and in years to come.

Thank you so much for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heather Stewart
