When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Peach Pie!
Funded Apr 9, 2025Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom!
I am so excited for the opportunity to have a new class set of books to use for a read aloud. "When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Peach Pie" is such a fantastic story with many opportunities for extensions into math, geography, and writing.
I believe it is essential to share books like this with my 2nd graders- ones that inspire, create interest to read the next books in the series, and instill a love of story.
Thank you for making this book possible!
Fondly-
Heather Stewart”

Funded Aug 14, 2024Thank you so much once again for your donation to our classroom.
This project funded a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card in the amount of $100.
I have used this gift card so far to purchase products including: a collaborative art project to culminate our read aloud of "The Wild Robot". Three products to assist with teaching a science unit themed to owls. An art project that was apple hangings for the month of September. A product called "the second day of second grade" that included a variety of activities themed to this special 2nd grade day. A holiday clip art bundle that will provide clip art to be used themed to 12 different holidays during the year.
I still have a balance of this gift card- so I know that there will be additional amazing products that will be used to supplement the learning within my classroom.
Thank you once again!”

Funded Aug 2, 2023I am so excited to add "A Bear Called Paddington" by Michael Bond to my 2nd grade class read aloud line up!
This book opens up so many unique learning possibilities- and I cannot wait to begin preparations for this book to make its debut in November.
Thank you so much for making this read aloud a reality for my class. Having a book in hand during read aloud is so critical to building reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. And having an entire set of the Paddington Bear series- this allows my students to continue on in the story.
Thank you once again-”

Funded May 9, 2023Changing grade levels isn't something that I anticipated doing. But an opportunity came up to shift from 3rd grade to 2nd grade, so I decided to make the jump back.
I am excited for new opportunities and a fresh start. I am prepping and finding new activities and new read alouds.
Since I have been at 3rd grade for nearly 20 years, this shift has created a need for 2nd grade materials. You have helped to make this possible. The gift cards to Teachers Pay Teachers allows me to find and purchase materials that my students will use from day 1 in the classroom. And it provides me the gift of time- in not having to search and/or create these materials on my own.
Thank you for helping to make the transition as seamless as possible. I am so appreciative of your support. It means the world to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Mrs. Heather Stewart
This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Foundation and 3 other donors."Ways to Make Sunshine" by Renee Watson
Funded Mar 30, 2023Thank you so much for helping to fully fund my project for a class set of the book "Ways to Make Sunshine" by Renee Watson. This is the first book in a series- which is something I always love to find with read alouds. Students who fall in love with the first book often opt to continue the series on their own.
I attended a children's literature conference in March 2023 at Western Washington University and had the opportunity to meet Renee Watson and listen to her speak. I learned about her life, her background, and where the motivation comes from to be a writer. This created the desire in me to add "Ways to Make Sunshine" and all of the books in this series to my classroom.
Read aloud takes place after lunch every day in my classroom. Students with a copy of the book in hand are able to build fluency, increase their vocabulary, and improve comprehension as they track along with the story.
I love finding new books to share with my class each year. Donors Choose and donors like you make this as possibility. Thank you for making a marked difference within my classroom for my students for many years to come.”

Funded Jan 10, 2023Thank you so much for your donation to my project. I am so excited to use the gift cards to Teachers Pay Teachers to supplement what I do in my classroom on a daily basis. And to help support the bigger projects that I am doing with my grade level team.
Right now the most exciting project is the culminating project for our 3rd grade read aloud- a Fairy Tale Ball. It has been wonderful to go on the Teachers Pay Teachers website and search for exactly what my entire team needs to create a wonderful, magical experience for my students and all the students in the 3rd grade group. Thank you again!”

The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell
Funded Nov 28, 2022As a teacher, I am always on the hunt for new read aloud books to share with my students. And when I find the perfect book, I believe it is critical for students to have a copy of the book in their hands. They are able to follow along with the story as I read aloud- building all aspects of their skills as readers. Fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and listening- all working together at the same time.
Chris Colfer's "Land of Stories" series is pure magic. And the books you have provided are the 10th anniversary illustrated editions. And they are simply beautiful!
The entire 3rd grade team of eight classrooms/teachers will be reading this book all at the same time starting in January of 2023. To culminate we will host a fairy tale ball in which students will continue their learning of fairy tales, dress as a fairy tale character of their choice, and celebrate finishing the read aloud as an entire group.
We are very excited and so grateful for the generosity of donors who have made this possible.
Thank you so much for your help- I appreciate your donations so much!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Heather Stewart
"The Last Bear" by Hannah Gold
Funded Jul 24, 2022My favorite part of the school day is read aloud time. Being able to share a book with students. To talk about characters, events, problems, predictions. To laugh, to cry, to wonder, to hope, to want to keep reading more and more.
I am constantly reading books to find new ones to share with my class each year. When I discovered Hannah Gold's "The Last Bear"...I simply knew it needed to be shared with my 3rd graders. It encompasses everything I am looking for in a story- a strong character, a powerful message, big emotions, and a storyline that will stick with the reader far beyond the last page of the book.
Thank you so much for your donation. Each student will have a book in hand during read aloud time, which I know to be absolutely crucial to read aloud time.
You made such a difference- thank you thank you thank you! And if you haven't already- be sure to check out this book! :)”

Funded Feb 17, 2022I cannot express enough how grateful I am for your donation to help fully fund this project on Donors Choose.
I have already been able to purchase a wide variety of resources on Teachers Pay Teachers to help support my students across many subject areas. Some recent purchases include: Earth Day printables and activities, engaging new fonts and clipart, review/reteaching materials, two versions of a country report on England that coordinates to a new read aloud, a year long writing prompt bundle, a spring bulletin board kit for the school, and support materials to help prepare students for the SBA assessment.
I think the product I am most excited about that students are currently using would be the year long writing bundle. It connects to every day of the school year with a historical event that took place on that same day. Students then respond to the prompt for that day.
The next products that I am most excited about would be the ones that I was able to purchase for the upcoming school spirit day: Earth Day. It is fantastic to have printable, ready to go materials for such an important new spirit day in our school.
Thank you so much for your donation! :)”

"The Boy at the Back of the Class"
Funded Mar 26, 2022Today was a special day! My class received a box from Donors Choose via Amazon that was filled to the top with books. Books that you helped to make a reality in my students' hands. Thank you!
"The Boy at the Back of the Class" is a book that I instantly knew needed to be a read aloud in my classroom. It is timely. Bottom line. This is a story that is meant to be shared, discussed, and heard. As a teacher, when you can't stop thinking about a book and the characters in it long after you have finished reading it...that is the key. If it resonates with me, it will with my students too.
Your donation on Donors Choose for this class set of books is very much appreciated. Thank you so much for making this read aloud possible not just for this year, but for years to come. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Heather Stewart
