Flexible Seating for Flexible Learning!

I am so grateful for each donation our classroom received! I initially told my students that we were fully funded and that they could expect new seating in our classroom shortly. They were excited, but nothing compared to the excitement I saw when the seating was physically delivered to our classroom. I unwrapped all of the new furniture and allowed the students to look at and try each one. Then, I sent them to lunch. They must have been excited because every other class in the cafeteria knew that our class got new furniture - so my kids we're definitely sharing our big news!

The flexible seating has definitely improved engagement, but it has also improved something that I wasn't expecting to see - communication. I told my students it was up to them as a class to come up with a system so each student had their choice of seating. They decided it would be best for everyone to start with the flexible seating option they liked best. Then, when they wanted to try something else they would talk to other students about trading. The other students can either agree to trade or decline and keep their seating option. If they decline, the students can go ask someone else. It is amazing to see the kids have quality discussion about their seating options. I am happy to report that we have not had any issues with who gets what setting!!

Aftercare is in my classroom after school, so they occasionally use some of our flexible seating. It is so nice to hear the students in my class tell other students how to use and care for our supplies. They take such pride in our classroom .
