My Transitional Kindergarteners And Kinder Cuties Need Center Supplies
Funded Dec 15, 2013How could I could thank you enough! My students are so excited to receive our supplies. We unpacked them one by one and discussed all the learning that would take place during center time. The play dough was a big hit! They enjoyed making letters and numbers and eventually I will have them also create things that begin with our target letters. Their creativity will fly! I focus on ensuring that my students use their creativity daily. Creativity is one of the four focus of developing 21st century skills. With the Mystery Box the students create sentences, sometimes silly ones as they sort. This helps them with the common core language arts standards. The Alphabet tubs are fabulous! The realia included in the set has really helped my students develop a lot of vocabulary. Additionally we use the objects for writing and creating stories. During their center time I have been able to accomplish so much. I am able to read every single day with at least 10 students. I can differentiate within the center and also when they work with me. Thank you for helping me purchase supplies that have helped my students learn.”

iPads for Collaboration!
Funded Mar 27, 2013I can't thank you enough. The ipads have really created such a buzz in my classroom. The students are so excited to publish their creative writing pieces. The kindergarteners that shared with us were amazed at how they were able to read their buddies writing and/or listen to the story. The app I used allowed students to type their stories, draw their pictures and even record their voices. They were able to be taught by my students as well. I was able to even send a copy of the books to their parents. Every week the children became more and more proficient at using our new technology. Furthermore, some of the students who are reluctant writers were actually eager to write so they could have a turn on the ipads. Thanks again for the grand impact you helped make. My students and I are very grateful.”

We're All Teachers
Funded Dec 12, 2012Thanks for your awesome help! The materials arrived to a classroom full of eager first graders. They were so excited to begin using the files to organize their work. We began by cleaning out their desks and they found work that was completed weeks back. We began a new system during writing time for completing work. Now whenever they finish a writing piece it goes into their files and are then able to choose from their many completed texts to share with the rest of the group. Additionally, during parent conferences I was able to show their parents their progression of writing throughout the year. I can only imagine how amazed the children and parents will be when they see their work at the end of the year. The organizer for extras has worked wonders. It has saved us lots of time and energy.
Thanks again.”

Skype In, Let's Chat and Learn!
Funded May 10, 2012Thank you so much for your generosity! We've completed so many projects with our iPads from writing stories to making PowerPoint presentations. We read many books and watched many videos. During author studies we were able to watch author interviews and discuss how we could emulate those authors. We were also able to use Skype with our iPads. We Skyped with another classroom about our favorite books. It was a wonderful opportunity to have the students share their favorite parts and eventually read their stories to the other classrooms. We thank you for your donations. Without you we would have never been able to experience this.”

Funded Apr 26, 2012When the iPads arrived my students were SOOO excited. They couldn't believe that complete strangers would be interested in improving their education. Before beginning my money unit , I asked my students to write what they would buy with $100. Most of them said houses and cars. They were completely lost about how much things cost. We discussed some of these grand purchases and discussed how they would be able to pay for these luxuries. Sure enough they said " with a credit card!" We had a lot of work ahead of us. We immediately began downloading all sorts of apps and practicing our money skills. Once the students were familiar with money we discussed management, of course, in a very very watered down way. We made plans on how to save and earn for college and how to get their parents involved. By the end of the unit, I must say I have seen a huge difference in their mindset. I asked them again what they would do with $100 and about half of them stated they would save it all for college while the rest stated they would save some of it. We typed up these reports and had their parents review and discuss it with their children. I am very proud to have started my second graders and their families on a path to financial literacy. Thanks for your help”

Funded Apr 8, 2012How excited my little second graders were when we received our package of materials. For most students it was the first time they had ever been able to touch and use an iPad. In the first week all 24 of my students were able to publish their narratives. The iPad came right at the end of our narrative unit so the students were very excited to be able to showcase their writing digitally. The printer made it so easy to have them type their writing, press Print, and in a few seconds have their stories ready to be shared. Some of the apps I found made it easy for them to include their drawings as well. I am very grateful for your donations! It has re-motivated my students and gave them more reasons to write. (For the sheer joy of sharing their stories with the world) Thanks again!”

Help 2nd Graders Learn about Diversity
Funded Mar 20, 2012What is diversity? My students live in a neighborhood where 99% of them are of similar backgrounds. I wondered how I would be able to expose my students to world cultures. With the help of the Kindles, I was able to have the students explore and research the world. Diversity is not simply eating a variety of foods, we learned that we are more alike than we are different. We had vast discussions about how the people around the world live and how they are similar and different. The Bullying in Schools books helped them be more appreciative of the differences. Thank you for making our world a little smaller and exposing my students to new authentic cultures. ”

Funded Feb 17, 2012Thanks so much for your generosity. We've been using our Kindle Fire nonstop since it's arrival. We are super excited to announce that we have begun our research on bullying and have had great discussion about what compassion and understanding is and how to encourage it. I am lucky enough to have a classroom filled with very diverse learners. Unfortunately, it was difficult for my little second graders to understand that differences should be appreciated. At this tender young age the students are very egocentric and don't understand that everyone has the right to be valued. The Bullying in Schools book really helped the students have a clearer understanding of what bullying is and how to prevent it. I appreciate it the difference these items have made in my classroom and will make in my future students lives. ”

Funded Dec 21, 2011Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! My students and I were so excited to receive our materials recently. We have already begun using them on a daily basis. Everyday we use the books in the bins as I read aloud to the students and then place them back in an organized manner so that the students can have access to those same books at a later time. Specifically the students use the bins to reread their favorite books and try to emulate the author's writing. The magnets are great for organizing which students are next to use the books. They keep my classroom equitable. These materials have been of great help. Thanks again!”

Funded Feb 7, 2012Thank you so so much for your kind generosity! My students were so excited to receive the LeapFrog Tag Readers and books. On a rotating basis, my students have been using them during reading time. They get to read with the text and interact with it too. These materials are great for my struggling readers especially. Because they have to track each word they are beginning to learn many of the words in context. The Tag Readers also reinforce some of the skills I teach during the day like cause and effect. They especially enjoy the educational games they can play in each book.I can wait to use these again and again with my students year after year. Thanks again! We really appreciate it! ”
