The new books for our class library and large whiteboard have been a huge success and my students love them! The books have given my students the opportunity to practice their reading skills and motivate them to read. My students come from a high poverty, gang infested area and many do not have access books at home. They struggle to practice their reading and these books have encouraged them to read. My students love to read the sight word readers and word family books and they can't wait to read them every time they come to my class. They seem to be more interested in learning how to read with these new books!

My students are in K-5th grade and come from a very low socio-economic, gang infested area in California. They are hard-working students that are trying to make a better life for themselves. They face many challenges on a daily basis but still manage to improve academically. Our school is a Title I high-risk school that has made great progress over the past year. My students need a calming corner to help provide a safe space for them to learn how to control and manage their emotions. A calming corner also provides a different area to learn!
