Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto! Help Special Ed Students Learn Coding
Funded May 1, 2018Thank you so much for the resources and support. My students were SO excited when they opened up their packages from Donors Choose. It felt like a big birthday party for all of my students! They were most excited for the Lego Boost Kit, which we immediately opened and explored.
The Lego Boost Kit allowed my students the opportunity to work together to engineer an actual robot and then code it to make it move. We spent a total of about 8 hours building a cat robot together. My students practiced social skills, taking turns and sharing advice along the way. They had to problem solve as they made mistakes, and they used technology to "tell the robot what to do". This project allowed my students to engage multiple parts of their brains and use higher order thinking skills in an extremely fun and meaningful way!
My students absolutely appreciated the other supplies as well. This project stocked up our classroom on scissors, glue, colored pencils, and some math manipulatives to set us up for success! There's nothing more satisfying than a full supply cabinet! My students LOVE to open the cabinet and our supplies to create art projects to go along with our literacy units and read alouds. It helps them access their learning in a different way.”

Communication and Reading Materials For My Sweet Special Ed Room
Funded Aug 25, 2017My students and I are LOVING our materials that we had donated through Donors Choose. We especially love the set of percussion instruments. My students used them a way to explore the connection between rhythm and number patterns in math. This gave them the opportunity for hands-on, authentic, and engaging learning.
I was so excited when my Donors Choose packages arrived! It was a truly wonderful getting to set up my classroom for the school year with my new materials. The learning environment in my room has become more welcoming than ever, and my students adore being in my room.
My students are so thankful for the support. They are amazed that other people, who don't even know them, want to help them learn. We cannot thank our donors enough for their help!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Doxtater
